Subject: Sounds Of Your Neighborhood

Ok, this may be a stupid topic but here it goes. As you are sitting at your computer, what sounds do you normally hear?
For me:
-The noon whistle.
-At 3 pm, the kids from the elementary school (we are just around the corner from the school and many of them walk by the house).
-The fire alarm-if it goes off (we are next to the firehouse).
-Traffic.
-Off in the distance, the train (once in a while).
-The birds singing.
-Traffic.
-Once in a while Carlos getting upset with his game on the other computer. :D :D
That's all I can think of right now.
Your turn.
Cat

When I haven't got my headphones bolted to my nut, I'm most likely to hear...
The birds performing their little sing-song to each other...
The odd train rumbling past...
And the gentle sounds of 'her ladyship' miaowing for attention (normally involving an empty food bowl!)

In the mornings, when I'm sitting at the computer, I normally hear...
soft music (usually 70's) playing on the television
a number of planes coming in for landing, as we're right in the flight path
lots of birds, either singing or squawking (depending on the situation)
the odd car alarm sounding ::)
the wind slamming doors in the house (which just happened now!)

Looking out my dorm window, I see the hospital and the frat house (SigEp!)
So most of the time, I hear ambulances, lots and lots of cars going by, and some nights I hear the chants of the SigEp boys after their meetings.
Oh, and the guy underneath me thinks his music is soooo wonderful that he has to blast it. So I hear that sometimes.

♦ Birds chirping
♦ Sounds of the jackhammer and construction crew (old folks home being bult)
♦ pounding and hammering of my upstairs, downstairs, and nextdoor neighbours
Most of the time, I've got my headphones plugged in while I sit at the computer, so I only hear these sounds in between songs :D

Since I have my computer in the basement I don't hear much outside noise.
I usually hear some kind of cartoon on the TV, kids playing or fighting, my father-in-law doing whatever he does, the dogs' collars jingling, the cats running around, and the air conditioner or heat running.

Birds chirping
A tractor in the field next door
I've heard 3 car accidents at the same spot down the road in the past 9 years. CRASH! Very high accident area.
Wind blowing through the trees
Rain
Neighbor mowing the grass
Dog scratching
TV in the background

This is a great topic idea, Cat!! :)
Let's see:
I usually hear birds chirping
My cats running around the house, and sometimes looking out the window at birds (then they make this odd chirping noise at the birds)
The telephone ringing
Vaughn talking/yelling/laughing/singing/etc.
The sound of the TV
The sound of music that I play sometimes
The fire whistle (as we live only a block or so away from the fire station)
Cars going up and down the street (as our street is quite busy)
The neighbor's "beep beep" of her locking her car, everytime she comes home
kids playing and yelling outside
the ice cream truck (in the summer)

Lots of Birds
Sirens - we live really close to a fire station
A train whistle in the distance
That's about it. We live in a pretty quiet place!

Birds chirping
Woodpecker (usually during the summer, though)
Neighbors next door arguing
People driving over the speed bump near our house really fast and hearing their cars go "da dump"
Helicopters flying by every once in awhile.
Sometimes on a very quiet night/day, I can hear BART go by, but this is on rare occasions.

Listening right now, I hear the sound of silence, but at other times I can hear boys outside on their skateboards, lawnmowers and weed trimmers. I can hear birds, crows, dove, owl, robins and sparrows mostly. I can sometimes hear the loose board on the fence rattle when it's windy & I can hear planes passing over, especially during storms as they adjust their paths & fly right over our area during rainstorms.
