Subject: Caller ID "Unknown" or "Toll Free Number" calls

Written By: 80s_cheerleader on 02/26/07 at 12:18 pm

Just found something neat after I googled a "toll-free number" call on my caller ID:

http://whocalled.us/

You can put the number in and it tells you who it is.  I went back through my caller ID and put in a few numbers that have called me recently so I now know who they are ;)

That's interesting! :D

Just for the fun of it, I clicked on that site and typed in "867-5309", and here's what it brought up:

How does this work?

You simply click on the site (http://whocalled.us/), type any phone # in the Phone Number text box, and then click the "Lookup" button below. Then it'll tell you who called, and the alleged caller ID.

Of course, that was back in the old days when telephone numbers used to look like that.

It's based on user input. I'm sure eventually some jokester will fill more in.

I'm sorry, that's not a phone number song.

I know it's not a song...I was just giving reference to a time on TV from back in the old days when they used words at the beginning of a phone number.

I beg to differ...or maybe I'm just the anomaly. I get toll-free calls, calls that have the State origination, stupid calls like "French Quarter" (which is actually a sales pitch for a Branson time share), etc, etc. The only calls my privacy manager manages to "not recognize" are actually most of my buds from other states! I get calls from collection agencies trying to find the people who previously had my phone number...the list goes on. It sucks!  >:(  ::)

I don't get any of these calls at all.
I only get calls from those that I have approved by telling them they can call me with promotions etc.

Something helpful:
There is a National Do Not Call Registry https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx
Just register your number, give it about 3 weeks, and voila! Your phone only rings with calls from family and friends.... unless of course a bill collector really has the right number!! ;D ;D ;D
