After some discussion, the mods and myself have come to the conclusion that maybe a few people are unclear on the concepts. 

As of yesterday, we're moving to a one warning, and then you're out of here system.  If we send you a warning, and you continue to do whatever we warned you not to, you're going to be banned.  No exceptions. Bans are permanent.

We're not going to tolerate the nastiness some members seem inclined to have towards others. The rules were established because we want this to be a decent place for decent people to come and meet and not put up with the usual crap found in larger sites.

If you have a problem with a rule, ask about it.  Ignorance of the system rules is not a valid excuse.

The "But Clinton..." line made me guffaw. 


As did the "eight, eight, I forget what eight was for."

I think most people on this board have a pretty good sense of humor. I wish people would rely on it more often instead of bickering about nonsense.

While all of the new/revised rules are important, IMHO #2 is the most important:

"2) Don't be a jerk
You agree through your use of this forum that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, racist, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, adult material, or otherwise in violation of any International or United States Federal law. Intentionally bypassing the profanity filters via spaces, misspellings, phonetics, ASCII, etc. isn't allowed."

This does not mean you guys can't engage in a heated discussion about whatever (even with moderators: don't avoid us!  ), but keep it civil. No personal attacks.

A few examples of what is acceptable and what isn't:

"I find your views illogical and not based on the facts at hand." - Acceptable
"I think you are an idiot. Do you even know how to read?" - Unacceptable

"Stairway to Heaven is overplayed and vastly overrated" - Acceptable
"How a loser like you could criticise a great song like STH shows how dumb you are." - Unacceptable

"Why in the world do you have that as an avatar?" - Acceptable
"Your picture is stupid.  Only someone who is brain dead would find that interesting." - Unacceptable

Please, if you see something that is a clear violation of the guidelines, do not respond to it, report it. If a twelve page argument ensues before a mod has a chance to remove the initial offending post, chances are the entire thread will be wiped.

While these new rules may seem harsh, the last thing any of us wants to do is ban a member. Informal warnings for lesser infractions may be given on threads (like was done on the Michael Jackson thread early this morning), but that is at discretion of the responding moderator; they are a courtesy and a friendly reminder, but not a requirement.

Everyone has a "clean slate" as of the updated rules being posted: please keep it that way.

this weekend the server got hacked.  that was a much bigger pain in my ass
