Subject: Starbucks Coffee
Written By: star80 on 02/11/07 at 3:00 pm
I receiived this email earlier today and being prior military, yes I have served my country (US Army 1981 - 1985; Honorable Discharge on my DD214), this story really offends me. Although I am not a coffee drinker I thought I would pass this story on to others to see if they would still support Starbucks

What I'm reading the poster as saying is "Would you still support them" and this leads me to believe that they are not sure if the story is true, so give them a chance to reply back to you before you start harshly judging the way you have here. I see this person as just trying to pass on information that was sent to them. Granted it may or may not be true and if you want to pay $2 - 3 for a cup of coffee that's your perogative, but the tones in your posts sound so hateful and immature.

atta boy Davester, you got good tastes. I was indoctrinated at the original Peets on Vine street in Berkleley where all the hippies and 60's type folk hang out. I worked 1 block away from that joint for 8 years. If the Starbucks rumor were true, then let every man or woman decide for themselves if they wish to patronize the place irregardless of what the reason is. If it were true, I'd be willing to boycott them, but I have a feeling it's not true. too many hoaxes/myths going around to just accept it, but if somene wishes to do more investigation, than go for it.

good point on the "please don't delete this" that is certainly a red flag unless the thread maker added that themselves, but if the email came with that title, almost definitely a hoax,, I know the JR Muggs you're talking about on San Pablo av. but I never went there.

Yeah, that's the one. Featuring Peet's coffee...
The admonishment not to delete is typical of those kinds of spam. Gypsy probably didn't add it. Well, I call them spam even though my girlfriend used to send them to me ALL the time from work untill I asked her to kindly knock it off... ;D
I suppose somebody is pissed at Starbuck's coffee. There's a funny site/messageboard called "I Hate Starbuck's" inhabited, mainly, by disgruntled ex-Starbuck's employees with too much time on their hands...

Exactly Tia, if this place sucks and we're all losers here, why the heck is she here? Why would such a superior person want to hang with a bunch of unemployed losers?
I'm employed...sorta :\'(
And sweetheart, you want to talk about taking off masks.....that's the pot calling the kettle black.

So that's what somebody else wrote obviously. Where's your concrete proof that it isn't? Until you can present it, then my opinion remains the same.
Did you even look at the link? There's the response from Starbucks right on it. Do you need a personal letter from the CEO to confirm it? All you have to do is google "Starbucks Iraq" and you'll get a few thousand sites with "proof". I also have spoken to vets who were IN Iraq and received Starbucks. ::)
Snopes.com is a well established and well trusted website, you should give it a visit. They always research their information VERY carefully, if they say it is a hoax you can rest assured it really is a hoax.
Not to mention that it's not the ONLY place I've read that it's a hoax. I believe that I even saw it on starbucks.com when it first started circulating.....I always check snopes whenever I get an email like this. I have some friends who believe stuff like this like it was gospel......that is, until I check snopes and find out 99% of them aren't true ;)
All o that being said, it is true that Starbucks as a corporation does not send coffee to the soldiers. It has nothing to do, however, with them supporting/not supporting the war/troops. Starbucks ONLY makes donations to charities and the military is NOT a charity (although one could argue that they do infinitely more good than any charity :))

Thanks MamaK for the information. I don't get that many emails, but this one came from some posters at a crime forum that I belong to. I will definitely go to that website from now on should I receive anything else like that. It just upset me when I read it being prior military myself. I will go back and read the link again to see what I missed obviously.

You've obviously never served in the Military, so you haven't fought for the freedom that you take for granted daily or lost a family member, either, I'm just assuming like so many do on here..
I HAVE served in the military.
As to Starbucks, I don't do coffee (never have) but I think Green Mountain Coffee is a great company (fair trade). So, if you are going to drink coffee, drink Green Mountain.

There's a local coffee house here called "Just Add Coffee" that we frequent, but I have to admit, Starbucks Dolce Latte is to die for. I always stop there when I'm at the airport.

Serving in the military doesn;t mean someone supports the U.s involvement in iraq.John kerry is a veteran, but he thinks the U.s. shoul;d get out of Iraq.Being in the military right now doesn't mean someone supports the war either, but when you join, you know you might not agree with everything you have to do.That's why military personnel get to vote in elections. And no,I've nenver been in the military.I've never even thought of joining becsuse I know I wouldn't get in.I can't run fast,do a pull up,climb a rope,or a lot of other things you have to do to get in there. My grandfather, who served as a doctor during WWII,had a little-known muscular disorder called Thomsen's disease, and it seems I have inherited it too,but being a female I'm at a disadvantage as far as people in my family who have had it.I don'tt hink someone who is physically challenged, however slightly, takes their freedom here for granted. ;) :)

My brother served in the Army in Panama and Operation Desert Storm. He does not support the war in Iraq. So, I don't see where the connection of serving in the military and being for the war in Iraq has any sort of merit.

Being patriotic sometimes means exercising your Constitutional rights by telling the Government they are WRONG!!!!

Do OTHER companies "Support" the troops?
Why is Starbucks being the only one singled out?
As for money donations,- a company/person has the right to pick and choose who/what they want to support. Thats the BEAUTY of AMERICA, the freedom to make choices. BIG DEAL if they don't want to send them FREE coffee.
This email has been circulating around the web for over a year at least and has been proven FALSE.
Before posting emails to stir up controversy check with SNOPES first.

Yeah, I've that in the past, I believe. It seems like a long time ago and I suppose it was (about 10-11 years ago). I guess it's kinda like someone who doesn't eat Sushi go into a Sushi bar, not much entices you to go inside, even if they have one dish that caters to your taste.

Because someone was p-o'd at Starbucks and what better way nowdays to try and crush someone than say they are against the troops (even if they aren't)?
Other companies have done much worse (not to the troops overseas, per se, but the families back home)......but they're not on someone with too much time on their hands' doo-doo list ;)
