Lots of things have been filmed here, but the only thing (to which i can recall) that took place here was episodes of the CBC series "Hockeyville 2006".  It was a show presented by Kraft Foods to determine the one city or town in Canada that best represents the spirit of Hockey.

My town didn't win, but we should have because we are home to where the first ever Hockey Game played with a puck took place

They filmed some scenes of the movie "Silence of the Lambs" in my hometown and Oprah Winfrey did a show in  1988 in my high school auditorium in our town (on the huge unemployment rate of the region).  Back in the 50's, Bob Hope premiered one of his movies at a house in my town, some lady won a contest, apparently Mr. Hope also had a television show back then called "The Chesterfield Hour" and he filmed that also in my high school auditorium.  We've had a few presidents give speechs in my town.  In June, 1959, When he was a Senator John Kennedy and Mrs. Kennedy was in a parade in town.  Back in the 30's. Eleanor Roosevelt tor\ured one of the coal mines nearby, unfortunately, it was considered bad luck for women to go into mines back then, and about 5 years later there was a HUGE methane gas explosion that killed 100 miners and closed the mine forever.  Ron Howard visited our town and bought his film crew boots and my friend's dad's show store in town.

The infamous "Battle Of Brisbane"  ;D

WWII

"The other, and the major problem, was the rapidly developing gulf between the US and Australian forces. The Yanks had smart, tailored uniforms, were well paid and accordingly drew the bulk of female attention and they were mostly extremely well mannered and pleasant. In the eyes of the hostile Aussies running second on their own turf  the Yanks were "overpaid, oversexed and over here".

Not much going on in Castroville, Ca. Marilyn Monroe was the first Artichoke Queen (Castroville is known as the artichoke capital of the world...woo). Monterey, Ca. and Salinas, Ca. are known for their connections to John Steinbeck.

I'm not sure if much happened in Griffith, Ind. I know Hammond (the town next to us) is the birthplace of Jean Shepherd ("A Christmas Story") and Crown Point held John Dillinger in their jail until he escaped using the famous soap gun.

my hometown is the home of The Conference House.  We played there as kids.

Shortly after the fall of New York to the British, the Conference House was the site of peace talks between General Howe and three prominent representatives of the Continental Congress - Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Edward Rutledge.

Having beaten the Americans and taken the key city, Howe thought he was entitled to a peace settlement. He asked for a conference and the prominent Americans, representatives in Congress of New England, the middle colonies and the South, were brought over on a boat from Perth Amboy.

The Americans, having declared independence in July, considered separation from England as non-negotiable.

Quite a few other things, we've had a King or two die here.

Cardinal Wolsey died here.

They filmed parts of The Boston Strangler and The Brinks Job here.  We also were one of the test cities for pay tv, and for along time had cheap rates on cable because of that.  The first murder during an armed bank robbery was here(so they say).  The parents of the young man killed owned the bank and built our public library as a memorial to their son.
We are also were the first Converse sneakers were made.  Home of the Converse All-Stars.  They have since moved to China and I will never wear another pair again.

In the movie "Nobody's Fool" (with Paul Newman), the scene toward the end where he is walking up a slight hill and sits down on the front porch with his friend, that front porch belonged to my high school sweetheart's mother (who I still keep in touch with). She told me that she met Paul Newman and Jessica Tandy, plus just about everyone else in the cast. I was in the house several times when I was in high school. She sold the house last year.

Though quite a few things happened in a neighboring town, Philadelphia is a popular place, the
only thing that happened of note in my hometown was that Geoge Washington's Army trained
in a field in town. That field later became a baseball field where the Phillies and A's would play
Sunday games. Philadelphia blue laws wouldn't allow them to play in the city on Sunday.

I jujst remembered something really stupid that happened here.
Remember Circus of the Stars?
Christopher Atkins was training here to work with an elephant.  Why on Staten island, I have no idea.
The best part- for publicity, they get a bunch of local football players to team up on a tug of war with the elephant.
Apparently the animal was losing and did no dig it ...it charged and a bunch of big college men ran for their lives.
It was definately the best thing to appear in our local paper anyway.

I"m sure more important things went on here, but that's my favorite.

In my hometown, we set the American record for the most cases of Hepatitis C a few years ago.  A Chi Chi's restaurant at the Beaver Valley Mall infected over 600 people.  My Mom was in the hospital at the time and her roommate spent most of the day on the cr@pper.  NASTY stuff.  Once they discovered that she had Hep-C, they IMMEDIATELY got her out of Mum's room and disinfected everything.

"The Tyler courthouse shootout refers to a February 24, 2005, incident in which David Hernandez Arroyo Sr. opened fire on his ex-wife and son in front of the Smith County Courthouse in Tyler, Texas, then engaged law enforcement officers in a shootout. Mirabel Estrada, his ex-wife, was killed at the scene, as was Mark Allen Wilson, a downtown resident who attempted to intervene; Arroyo was fatally shot by police as he tried to flee. Two sheriff's deputies, a police officer, and Arroyo's son were wounded."

Tyler is where I lived from age 5 to 13, and for the past year and a half.

The summer before last I was an intern at a web design company here owned by a close friend of Mark Allen Wilson's. Infact where I worked was just a few blocks from where it had happened, about 5 months earlier.

Then of course a much more famous murder took place in Dallas, the city where I was born and spent the first 5 years of my life.

"The assassination of John F. Kennedy, the thirty-fifth President of the United States, took place on Friday, November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, USA at 12:30 p.m. CST (18:30 UTC). Kennedy was fatally wounded by gunshots while riding with his wife in a presidential motorcade through Dealey Plaza."

The 1999 HBO-TV Movie "Vendetta" starring Christopher Walken.  A section of the downtown area was closed off, and re-built to look like an old western town.  It was the biggest thing to hit here since Paul Bernardo
