it's weird how many people here speak french. and, um, there was this incredibly bizarre taxi driver guy who drove me from the airport, he barely had an accent and yet i couldn't understand anything he was saying.

okay.

so, first he asks me if i need a ride back to the airport when i'm coming back at the beginning of next week. i say i dunno, but maybe he should give me a card. he sez, okay, i don't actually have a card but i could give you my mistress' card and just write my number on the back. but don't tell me wife, okay? so, within two minutes i already know this dude's cheating on his wife.

ask him what sorts of sights there are to see in this town and his first two are nice normal touristy suggestions, but then he talks about some park where you can watch "guys and guys together" and "girls and girls together" and it's a good place to go if you're a "horny guy." okay. so then he's all, hey, you might like my mistress. maybe you should come by and the three of us can, like, "party." so he calls her on the phone and hands me the phone! i'm all, okay, hi, um, heard a lot about you, here's your taxi driver guy back. AWKWARD. and then i see he DOESN'T HAVE A FARE BOX. he's not even a real cabbie. i'm lucky i'm alive.

it's very nice here. at least i think so, i haven't seen a lot of daylight so far although it appears to be out there, the sun. shining away. it's a little chillier than it is in washington, although i can't tell how much because everybody around here measures temperature the wrong way.

okay, so this was our tour of "uptown" -- actually a cloverleaf and little path with lots of placards and historical markers, and a nice view of the modest skyline. weirdly, the historical markers aren't all about wars and massacres, like they are in the u.s. isn't there any history in canada, eh?

the news here is all about trade negotiations and visits from foreign dignitaries. nary a car bombing or partisan bickerfest in sight. kinda refreshing, i must admit.

they have a COMPLETELY different donut shop. it's totally NOT dunkin donuts. which is weird, eh?

for the record, i haven't heard anyone say "eh" at the end of a sentence. although the "outs" and "abouts" DO actualy come out vaguely "oot" and "aboot."

apparently they say I have an accent. i find that difficult to believe. ::)

We have tried. I think we could only decide on the place-Las Vegas (by poplular vote) but we could never decide on when. I have often thought that we should have mini-meetings around the globe at different times so if there are people who could make it more than one, they wouldn't have to chose which one.
