Subject: Bands/Singers you listened to growing up

Many people's musical tastes have probably changed today, but what are some of the bands and singers that you listened to when you were growing up?

My taste hasn't changed much...

When I was REALLY young, it was mostly a cross between doowop (my dad's music) and British Invasion (my mom's music)

Then it was Billy Joel, Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Abba, from about age 7 till about age 11

Then Duran Duran, A-ha, Alphaville, Erasure, New Order, Thompson Twins, Spandau Ballet, etc.

and I still like most of it.

Won't bother naming the bands, there were just too many!

The Late 80s & Early 90s: Whatever my parents listened to.
The Late 90s: Whatever was played on Top 40 radio stations at the time. (Chart stuff)
The Early 00s: Nu-Metal, Classic Rock, New Rock etc
The Mid 00s: Click the banner below to find out! ----

I was just slightly obsessed with Abba from the age of 6 until about 11 or 12. Other than that it was whatever my parents listened to.This included The Beachboys, The Carpenters, the Eagles and Neil Diamond.
I went from being into chart stuff in the early 80's (Ultravox,Tears for Fears, Adam and the Ants, Madness, Stray Cats, Paul Young etc) to being a fully fledged Glam Metal queen by the end of the 80's !
I saw 73 bands in 9 months in 1988 which is probably why my hearing is shot to pieces now.

-The Beatles and all British Invasion.
-Tori Amos.
-Nirvana and Soundgarden.
-Radiohead.
-Motown.
-Disco.
-The stuff on the first several NOW compilations.

As a little kid (in the 60s) -- my parents' music -- Johnny Cash, Johnny Mathis, Glen Campbell, Beatles, Chubby Checker.

Bubblegum a.m. radio later in my own elementary school years, like "Sugar, Sugar"

The Monkees.  The Partridge Family.  Bobby Sherman.  And some country gospel kinda stuff.

Then 70s a.m. radio and my favs as a teen were:  Don McLean.  James Taylor.  Carly Simon.  Carole King.  (I've always preferred acoustic to metal).

Late high school, early college (late 70s):  Billy Joel, CSN&Y, Joni Mitchell, Marshall Tucker, Meatloaf, Leonard Skynyrd and a little Pink Floyd.

Once the 80s set in, I was pretty much done keeping up.  I listened to whatever my sister listened to -- got into some of the punk/new wave scene but can't really outline it for you anymore...or whatever was playing in the clubs.  but at home on my own my tastes stuck w/ acoustic, light, folk, jazz, blues and a little bit of classical.

Once the 90s came I was having kids and who has time to keep up on new music when you have toddlers?

Now I listen to the same stuff I always have plus whatever my teenagers listen to but I don't know the names of the bands or the songs for the most part.

Sounds like my dad. As far as I know, it's exactly the same.

I listened to a lot of music (too many to list actually). I grew up listening to much of my parents music (or what came from their time). In addition to that, I grew up listening to what was hot (and not hot) in the 1980s b/c that was my time. In the 90s, I also caught wind of what was hot then (moreso in the early to mid 1990s).
