When you were 10 years old, what did you want to be when you grew up?  I heard that the answer to this question is a reflection of our purest selves.

For instance, when I was ten(ish), I wanted to be an airline stewardess (no one said "attendant" yet), an interpreter at the U.N., and an actress.  Still today, I love to travel, am interested in cultures and how people in different cultures communicate, and I've never stopped loving the stage.

Job wise, I wanted to be a fireman.  Never accomplished that one either ;D

I wanted to be a musician.. and low and behold, if you look on any sort of form, my proffesion is indeed listed as musician...

I wanted to be a fashion designer. I subscribed to ELLE magazine at the tender age of 10 (circa 1992), and I use to make up my own magazine called "What." I'd discuss fashion and the like. I also used to do fashion drawings from a model that I traced over and made my own designs from.

I still love fashion. It's been a passion of mine for years.

I don't remember.  I probably never thought of anything.

I wanted to be an actress...and yes, to this day...I love to act/perform...and I love the theatre.

I never really thought about it as a kid.  I remember I'd play certain professions but I don't ever remember thinking about what I actually wanted to be when I grew up.

I wanted to be a real estate agent or an architect.  I still love houses and I'm getting a big interest in interior design now.  I should consider the agent job a little more, after all it would help me a lot since my husband and I are into real estate investing. :)

Architect is out the door, that would take too much creativity.

This is an old thread I guess I never responded to the first time around...but I really think that categorization makes sense. In a way, I think age 9 to 12 is like the perfect midpoint - like, you're easily old enough to grasp the world and know stuff in detail, but young enough to be innocent about things too.

For me - even though I didn't think about it as much detail as I do now (or even five years later), that was when I first started thinking about how it would be cool to be some kind of performer or actor. 1991 was the first time I started really digging movies, TV and music videos. On a personal side, that was also my first kinda window into how other people lived. Like, kids at school and stuff. I started becoming aware of things outside my own existance, although I didn't totally understand everything like I would from 14+ or so.

Some things I got into in the early Nineties include: Ernest, Gallagher standup comedy, Weird Al Yankovic, Super Nintendo games, that period's VH1, Paula Abdul, various comedic movies (i.e. stuff by John Candy).
