I hear people saying "butt naked" when they're talking about someone being nude.  I've alway thought it was BUCK naked. 

Another one that people use is 'butt of the joke" but I've always use "brunt".

So tell me, which do you think is correct?

The phrase "spitting image" most likely derives from the dialect of the Deep South region of the United States, wherein "spit" was a corruption of "spirit" and "spittin'," a further corruption of "spirit and." Thus the son who is the "spittin' image" of his father resembles him in both spirit and image, the two words representing the whole sphere of the intangible and the tangible.

Others say, perhaps too glibly, that the name comes from British slang, an apparent misunderstanding of the established term "spit and image"; a person who closely resembles another person can be described as their "spitting image". get our best minds on this one. I'm thinking prank is meant to be a joke, not sure about crank, bit where I work at we simply refer to them as annoyance calls. I used to be a "Annoyance Call Specialist" worked with the police, set up phone line traces. It was cool. We busted a few people.  8)

I've always said prank.  Maybe the point of the calls is to make the person answering cranky.  Dunno?
