Brian MacLeod. He was the guitarist for Chilliwack from 1978-1983, when he left to focus on his side project called The Headpins. I have a bunch of albums by both, and I listen to them all the time
He passed away in 1992 from cancer :\'(

Dang, so.. This will be my first serious post ever.
First of all, I'd like to thank all the soldiers who've gone off to war to fight for this great country of ours over the years. The strength, determination, honor and pride that has been shown on so many occasions is staggering.
From the Normandy beaches, to the Vietnamese forest to the Iraqi desert. Those who serve in the armed forces are some of the finest men and women to have graced this earth.
To those who have perished in cowardly attacks all over the world.
New York, London, Belfast, Singapore, Madrid, the list goes on.
"The innocent suffered hell's inferno" said John Schaffer, no truer words could have been spoken.
It's important to remember, that through the fog of destruction, terror and mayhem comes clarity, strength and determination.
Those who had their lives taken away through no fault of their own shall be rememberd.
So many people who have touched mine and others lives have died before their time. This would be as good a place as any to extend a tribute towards them.
Randy Rhodes, Ronnie Van Zant, Bon Scott, Ray Gillen, Frank Zappa, Cliff Burton, Darrel Abott, Ingo Schwichtenberg, Tommy Bolin, Phil Lynott, Paul Baloff, Gar Samuelson, Dave Williams, Joey Ramone, Dee Dee Ramone, Jimi Hendrix.. the list goes on.
So, in the words of the indomitable Dave Mustaine..
"So as you read this know my friends/
I'd love to stay with you all/
Please smile when you think of me/
My bodys gone thats all."
That's all.

It's pretty sad stuff. in 1975, Pete Ham hung himself in his garage and in 1983 Tom Evans hung himself, both due to conflicts/problems with the band, it's management, and financial troubles/worries. I believe I read that Mike Gibbins died of natural causes just last year.

He is a legend and a hero in Canada. He had to end his race early becuase the cancer had spread to his lungs. He passed away in 1981 :\'(
I was quite young when he passed on, but I remember watching the interviews and footage of him. A man so young got taken away early in his life :\'(
There is a statue commemorating him in Thunder Bay, Ontario, which is where his race was forced to come to an end.
In 2004, the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) did a series called "The Greatest Canadians" and Terry Fox made #2 on the list

There was a similar story from another Canadian named Rick Hansen. He was paralyzed when he was thrown from the back of a truck, so he became a world class wheelchair marathoner, and in 1985 started his Man in Motion world tour, where he wheeled himself through 34 countries on 4 continents, and raised over $10 Million for Spinal Cord Research. He is still active today
The song "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)" (as sung by John Parr) was written about him

I remember her. Nice hi-NRG stuff. ("So I shouldn'ta saved myself for her?" One ticket to hell, please :)
On a serious note: The first beer of the day, as always, goes to all who served, and who serve.
The second beer goes specifically to the Chosin Few. Many years ago, I chanced to meet one of the Few. I was as surprised to meet him as he was to meet a young'un who knew what he meant when he said he was one of 'em.
Me: "I'm just a civilian, but we haven't all forgotten what happened there."
Him: "Neither have we."
Me: "Neither will I. Words don't cut it - but well done, condolences, and thanks."
I like to think that the fact that a younger civilian knew the story, made that Marine's day. I know that the fact that I shook the hand of someone who was there, made mine.
Good story. made my day too. 8)

I used to wear a POW/MIA bracelet with the name Michael Joseph Blassie on it. Even though I never met him, I felt that he was a part of my life because I would see his name everyday when I put the bracelet on. I never thought that I would learn his fate-but I did. In 1998, it was proven through DNA that he was buried in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He wasn't unknown anymore. I sent the bracelet to his mother and got a very nice letter back from her.

That is what you are supposed to do with a POW/MIA bracelet-you send it to the person or to the family when they do come home. I told his mother that I would much rather be sending it to him rather than to her. I'm sure she wishes the same.
