Summer is just around the corner in the states, and I always wondered what moments, events, songs, etc people associated with the official start of summer for them personally. When it officially clicks in your head.

for me it was always the late 80's, early 90's, when my family would take early June long weekend trips to our place in New Hampshire(and sometimes our wealthier relatives in Edgartown), I only had like 2 weeks left of school at most so my parents didn't care if they pulled me out for 2-3 days, it was just a great time to spend some time together with family. We'd always pile into the station wagon at about dusk and drive through the night. I could never sleep and my dad always kept the radio tuned to classic rock stations. We had the windows rolled down, the air was warm, and like clockwork the radio stations always would play Framptons "Do you feel like I do", it's a seasonal thing really...in the autumns they overplay Maggie May (It's late September and I really should be back at school...)

now whenever I'm driving down long stretches of highway at night in may or early june and the stations cue Frampton...I know summer is here.

- The last exam. (From 2004 onward...)
- The last day of school. (Now obsolete)
- Christmas tunes start to play
- Christmas decorations start popping up everywhere

Moreso the first 1. It's always a nice feeling knowing that hard work is over and there is nothing else to do with school til March the following year.  :D

your description of your family vacation....gave me chills (good ones ;)). It reminded me of our family vacations in the old mini-van, leaving early in the morning and driving all day long toward our destination.

Wow, that's beautiful. Kind of makes me excited to have a family of my own.

I just need temps over 80 degrees.

Changes my whole attitude.

Warm weather, Sun shine, Pool open, Plane tickets in hand... It's summer.

I guess this year I will have to re-define it.  Every other year about as long as I can remember I was getting out of school in late May, but I'm not in school.

Truthfully, the weather here is ALREADY summer-like, so, as far as I'm concerned its already started.

It'll be when I'm out of school for a few weeks.. I put it at mid-June.

This summer's gonna be awesome.

yea I got a feeling this summer's gonna be great too.
In June I'll be going to the Rock Am Ring festival in Germany and camp there with my friends;I guess that's when my summer really kicks off.can't wait!

I have the feeling the summer will be pretty good for me as well.  Definitely better than last year.

Summer: June - August
Fall: September - November

I feel this Summer will be pretty good to me.I'll be working more days and hours,finally getting discharged from my program soon and hopefully to be seeing Robin more often too. :)

Summer will start for me when this Indiana weather changes for the better.

For us, I suppose the start of summer will be at the beginning of June. Chris and I are going to Hilton Head, South Carolina on vacation....I can't wait!! :)

When I'm out at night into the wee hours and I live locked in a room with A/C.

I have been waiting all year for the Summer to start, so far I still have not seen it.

Tomorrow is The Final Day of Summer.

It is summer every day of the year over here. 

Fall starts tomorrow at 556am.

June 22nd 2008.

For me, it catching a whiff of three scents that make me think Summer is back,

1. Fire using real logs (makes me think of camping and roasting marshmallows in the campfire)
2. Grilling hot dogs or hamburgers
3. Suntan lotion that smells like coconut

I could be knee-deep in snow and if I smell one of those three scents, then in my mind (at least for one moment) I am basking in the warmth of the summer sun (conveniently forgetting how freaking humid it gets here during the summer).  ;D

For us, it starts either December 1 at 12:00:00am or December 22 at the point of the solstice. Depends on which way you look at it. Lately, our summers have started later and finished later, making spring longer and autumn shorter.

Summer officially starts for me the first day I say . . . my gosh it's hot.

Fall officially starts when I start wearing hoodies and raking leaves.

Winter starts for me right after Thanksgiving.

Spring - when I see buds on trees and flowers.
