Subject: Looking for song.....it's driving me crazy!!!
Written By: QueenAmenRa on 03/20/06 at 11:15 pm
Ok I've heard this song on the oldies channel lately and it's driving me crazy that the DJ doesn't say who it is (at least not when I'm listening) and I'm having no luck with a google lyrics search....
Mainly because I can't really understand the lyrics. The song is from the 70s or very late 60s. It's almost a folk-rock kinda feel. The singer's voice is slightly nasal and really shaky- like he's breaking up the words a lot that's why I can't understand. I almost want to say part of the verse is something like "Now I've...been....thinkin-a-lot-about....." but that lyrics search didn't help much. There's a small chorus of people who chime in the main part on only one word that sounds like "HIGHER!" or "TIGHTER!" or something like that. Then the lead singer does this echo-sounding "aaaiii-eeee-yaiiiiiiiiiiiii"
I heard this song again when the station did a "twin spin" and played another song this guy sang which was a church hymn....too bad I can't remember the hymn...then I probably would have found the other song by now.
Sorry this is all the info I have. If you have any idea what this could be please tell me.

When I read the description, the first artist to come to mind is Jethro Tull. I don't have a song in mind that fits, though, but here's a clip of the one that came even though I think it's wrong. Is this voice at all similar?

No it's not him. Ok maybe it's not "folk" rock. I guess I'm bad at describing various genres. Just think oldies

One more guess, again, probably wrong: "Everybody's Talkin'" by Nilsson?

That is one of my favorite oldies songs....I'm pretty sure it's not Harry Nilsson singing my "mystery song"

Ah well. Sorry, I'm out of ideas. Hopefully someone else will come up with something.

QueenAmenRa, I also thought about it, and the first name that came to my mind based on your description folk/rock was Donovan, but I see no song of his with those lyrics.

I've got it, almost 100% sure. It's Peace Train- Cat Stevens. I've been searching here on Napster, this seems like it. It starts like "Now I've been happy lately thinking about the good things to come."

I think you've got it! Nice work there.
Here's a clip, in case it's needed: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=ADFEAEE67A1DDF4EA97E20D09A3A53C0A77BFE00CD57EC9B3E21455992B63E45910671F208A68BB6E9B676AB7BAEE02CA45A099FC8E453F9D6673F2DFC93&sql=50:ocnyxdjb8oc7~T

You know how I got it. Badfinger-fan mentioned Donovan, who I looked up on Napster, and Cat Stevens was one of the similiar artists so I sampled some of his stuff and found this song.

Nice work Brian06, I'm sure QueenAmenRa will be happy. My daughter and her singing group just performed it Saturday night and the oo ahh eee ahh ooo ahh at the end of chorus is what's she's talking about in fact, my kids songsheet is right here by the computer and I'm reading it.

Doh! You'd think I should know Cat Stevens by now. Thanks guys! I totally could not hear the words "peace train" when I heard it before.
By the way, the "hymn" they played was "Morning Has Broken"

When I was little, I misheard this and thought he was singing 'B-string' instead of 'peace train'... ;D :-[

Oh, we used to mangle that to within an inch of its life in primary school...
Pity we never sung 'Peace Train'...that would have been an eye-opener!

Peace Train is one of my favorite Cat Stevens' songs. I have the soundtrack to that NBC minseries "The 70s" and it's on there.

That was a good miniseries and I'm trying to remember the lead actor. David Arquette is the face I'm seeing, but not sure and Cat Stevens Peace Train was a great song during troubled times.
