Subject: Are you a looker ?
Written By: FussBudgetVanPelt on 02/01/06 at 7:11 am
So ! When someone sticks a needle in you...
Are you a looker or a look away ?
Inspired by seeing the term used on Third Watch tonight ;D
I am a look away...

It depends. Sometimes I look, soemtimes I look away. I hate looking at the size of the needle they use in blood donations but I don't mind when I have an injection.

Can we cue jokes along the lines of, 'You'll only feel a little prick, sir!'
Nope, I can look...needles have never bothered me...
(Which reminds me, I must donate some blood pretty soon...)

I like to watch docs or tattooers give me needles, but seeing other people getting poked grosses me out.

The doctor I used to go to ... his nurse had walleye vision or something like that cause everytime she'd take my blood, she botched it up and had to do it again like 3 or 4 times. It's no wonder i'm still afraid of a needle :o

I have accute case of needle-itis. I don't do needles very well. And I can't look even if I'm not the one getting the needle.

I just had some blood drawn this afternoon. I watched the whole thing, and it didn't really bother me. However, it just so happened that I saw this thread right before I went to the doctor's office, so it may have skewed the results a little bit.

Same here.^
Actually I've had to get more than one ingrown toenail removed, and when they do that they stick a big needle in your toe to numb it. It goes in a good ways too; maybe half an inch. The doc even commented to me "you know this was the first time i've given this shot and had somebody watch the whole thing without squirming around". ;D

Wow, I can't even remember the last time I had a shot... I was probably a little kid. Well, except for novocaine, which doesn't bother me at all...

It depends. I use to be deathly afraid of needles, but I seemed to have this distrusting thing about me where if I didn't watch them take my blood then I felt I didn't have control over the situation, so I'd watch them every time - I still do.

Eeeek ! :o :o :o
One word : "Tetanus" :-\\
And some more words : ;D
"Tetanus, commonly called lockjaw, is a bacterial disease that affects the nervous system. It is contracted through a cut or wound that becomes contaminated with tetanus bacteria. The bacteria can get in through even a tiny pinprick or scratch, but deep puncture wounds or cuts like those made by nails or knives are especially susceptible to infection with tetanus. Tetanus bacteria are present worldwide and are commonly found in soil, dust and manure. Infection with tetanus causes severe muscle spasms, leading to "locking" of the jaw so the patient cannot open his/her mouth or swallow, and may even lead to death by suffocation. Tetanus is not transmitted from person to person"
"Vaccination is the best way to protect against tetanus. Due to widespread immunization, tetanus is now a rare disease in the U.S. A combination shot, called the Td vaccine, protects against both tetanus and diphtheria. A Td booster shot is recommended every 10 years. Adults who have never received immunization against tetanus should start with a 3-dose primary series given over 7-12 months."
Ewww :( :( :(

I had my tetanus jab last year. They reckon if you have three boosters after your initial childhood vaccine then you are covered for life. Which is good because I had a weird reaction whilst having the jab.

I can't look - mainly because most of the needles I have had in recent years have been via the mouth and I literally *can't* look ;)
The last needle outside of that, was when I needed stitches in my finger and I copped three needles right into the wound :o :\'(

I voted for it depends. If its just a simple shot or blood donation I can handle it, but if its major surgery it can gross me out.
