Subject: Anyone know of a computerized "speaking" program?
Written By: Marty McFly on 09/24/05 at 1:57 pm
Around 10 years ago, we had a computer that had a device where you could highlight text and it would speak it out -- in this computerized, semi monotone voice.
It was coherent enough to understand what it was saying, but "off" enough to be funny as heck too! For instance, it pronounced grapefruit as "Grapp-eh-froo-it". ;D
I used to like typing in movie lines and song lyrics for it to read back too.
Long story short, that computer is long gone. Is there any kind of similar computerized speaking program you can buy or download? I'd love to get that back. In the days of the Internet, I could find stuff instantly. Heck, I'd probably use it to read back posts on here, LOL!

if you go to control panel on your computer and then go to "speech"...there is a speaking device that does that....infact, YWN and I were just talking about it and we were making it say lame-o things...it was quite funny! ;D

I just tried to make Microsoft Sam say "What up, homie?" but instead he said "What up, Hermie?"

^^ Cool thanks, I'll try that. :)
Had no idea it was so close, lol. I'll see if it works -- if it does, I can also quote Doc too!

Just played around with it for several minutes - Microsoft Sam might be a little different from the one I had, but he's even funnier.
Of everything I made him say, the funniest was the chorus from "Bad to the Bone"....
Type in "buhbuhbuhbuhbuhbaddd, buhbuhbuhbuhbuh bad, bad to the bone" and it sounds just like Thorogood! ;D
BTW, is there any way to use it outside that box? Like if I wanted it to read text here, how would I do it?

So "bad" translates to "good"? I wonder if that is vice versa. It would certainly explain why Santa was such a hardass.

I'm not really sure if you can or not. I suppose you could copy and paste something...but I am not sure how much info you can fit inside the box for him to say.

Sounds like when you talk into a fan!
BTW, I've also noticed commas, periods and spaces make a big difference in how it pronounces things.

Also - type in about 10 or 20 "b" s (with a vowel at the end) and it'll sound funnier!

You can't paste with Microsoft Sam.
Go to My Computer...
C:\WINNT\system32\config\systemprofile\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Accessibility
When you get to the Accessibility folder, click on Narrator.  Set it to "Announce events on screen".  Go to Word, wait for it to finish talking if it is talking, and type (real fast) "oFU".  If you didn't catch it, type it again.  ;D

I remember a few years back, I was messing around with some voice software at school. I had it say "Welcome to windows you son of a bitch". Then I saved it as a wave file and made it the Windows Startup sound ;D

Hey I'm somewhere of the way there.
It'll announce everywhere I go (i.e. the title of the thread, and "Fore-ground win-dow") but it doesn't seem to wanna read specific highlighted words. I'll try working on it a bit.
That "window" announcement everytime you move can get annoying over time! ;D

OMG>....that is hilarious!!! ;D
That would be SO funny to hear all the time!
On my computer...I had downloaded this "Ramones" packet that contains things like wallpaper, screensavers, cursors, fonts, and a start up voice"....so, when I start up my computer it says, "I'd just like to say....this gig SUCKS" in Joey Ramone's voice...it's pretty cool!
