When I was in the military we did a small poll in our office and found out that all of us born in the US start counting with our index finger.....We found that all of us that were born in a country other than the US start counting with their thumb.  This would be a great place to see if that trend continues or if it was just a coincidence.

My Mother was a switchboard operator in the army and she worked with a woman with no arms who worked the switchboard with her toes!  I always start counting from my little finger (pinky)  :)

I start with my index, but I rarely use my fingers for counting... I do it in my head usually.

Now my sister.... She can't add two to three without counting on her fingers.

I work in a data entry shop and we used to have a keyer without hands.  She had no arms below the elbows.  There were little nubs on her elbows that she typed with.  She was pretty fast and accurate.  Goes to show that you can do whatever you put your mind to.

I start with 1 as my index finger.. although with the second hand, I start on the thumb.

1- index
2- index, middle
3- index, middle, ring
4 index, middle, ring, last
5- whole hand
6- hand, thumb

Thats strange because I was born IN THE US and I start with my thumb :)
