Subject: Duplicate accounts and other discussions
Written By: ChuckyG on 08/16/05 at 2:18 pm
It's really not practical for me to enforce rules dealing with duplicate accounts. Some people do share the same machine, email addresses are easy to fake, etc.
However....
If you're going to use a seperate account (like you want to post in the poltics forum, and don't want people to know you're a communist at heart), let's have some guidelines about doing it.
1) Don't pretend to be the opposite sex
it's just creepy
2) Don't post pictures, and claim they are you
it's dishonest and creepy
3) Don't have conversations with yourself
it's one thing to respond in the same thread, but to banter back and forth with yourself wastes everyone's time
I'm not mad at anyone for doing this stuff in the past, and I'm not trying to single anyone out.
If there's anything else people think we should set out as a guideline, let me know. I'm calling these guidelines and not RULES because it's just not something I plan on spending time enforcing.
also, I'm not going to spend time confirming if someone is using a duplicate account, unless they are causing problems.

just to add... if you want to "be someone else" merely as a joke... you can always change your screen name temporarily instead of making a whole new account..

The only other thing I would suggest as a guideline would be that the other account not be used as a mask account in order to purposely torment or harass other members.
Funny the things you find when you go back through tons of pages looking for something to post on. ;D ;D ;D

Does this include creating a fake account, posting 100 replies, then only using that account to give my regular account karma per day? ;D
(not that i would ever do this)

I don't think users should create multiple accounts for the sole purpose of starting you-know-what with other members. Check the Starbucks thread to see what I'm talking about.
I also don't think you should accuse people who agree with one another of being the same person. That's really quite insulting.

But what about Felly Nurtado, David Sari, Ashley Tisdale's A Cutie, Maddie's the Boss, Cole Sprouse, Electric Youth, Gebbie Dibson, etc .. Granted those were all guest names, but all of them were woops talking back with himself ;D

I was talking more about something that happened earlier today. Another user here accused me, Brian, Jessica and you of being the same person....simply because we agreed with one another about something. This user pretty much accused me of talking to myself and having multiple personalities. I don't dig that.

We can only speculate on who might be whom... and even then might not be 100% correct.
We can only hope that if duplicate accounts are made that they are used according to the Terms of Use.

For real though, it is amazing how long it actually takes people to warm up to one another once they are given the chance. Thats why I dont understand all this negativity towards new members. It isnt every new member, it is like one is chosen to be the duck and then people take their turns shooting at it.
Case in point, DJ Midas came back after a few years of being away, some thought he was a noob and immediately started trying to rip him a new one. It all ceased though as soon as a seasoned member pointed out DJ's status....

To be perfectly honest, I don't think it's all new members that people here jump on. I think it's members who go out of their way to be antagonistic towards other people here. When you accuse anyone who posts in a thread you start as "sabotaging" it, or "harassing" you, accuse people of pretending to be other members, threaten people with moderator intervention.....people will not like you, and they will say as much.
Just my two cents, take it for what it's worth. :-\\

And you know what else I have to say??!! I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO proud of nally for not saying a single word about the avatars or the ton of nally like quips that people have been using. To me it shows that he is growing and doing a great job at it! ;) That being said, don't go and start posting tons of nallyisms everywhere! ;D
That post doesn't chain with the last one, and you put too many O's on SO
just kidding ;D

Oh... Remember when Jiminy was banned, and everybody was afraid to tell Howard, only to find out he didn't give a flying leap about it, and Howard's just as heartless as the rest of us?
Maybe he just realised Jiminy was laughing at him rather than with him..............

For real though, it is amazing how long it actually takes people to warm up to one another once they are given the chance. Thats why I dont understand all this negativity towards new members. It isnt every new member, it is like one is chosen to be the duck and then people take their turns shooting at it.
Deep Thoughts by Tam ;D
I think part of that may be that you never know if it's actually a 'new" person or if it's someone else "pretending" to be new. I think after the whole incident a year or so ago (gosh, how long ago WAS that???) with someone having an "alter ego" where people felt so betrayed by said person, they're naturally suspicious whenever someone new jumps right in like they've been here forever......just my opinion, though......

yes, I agree. Ever since that incident...people have been cautious with trusting "new" members.

jiminy.... man I miss that guy sometimes!
he was back as "mugg" for awhile...but I haven't seen him on in a long time.

That was SOOOO funny! We were all so afraid that Howard would be mortified, that he was "losing his other half"..."partner in crime", etc....and then we tell him and he's all...."oh, I never liked that guy to begin with...good riddance"...ahahahahaha!! :D ;D
