It's funny ... I have an Aunt Marie who was born here but lives in LA. All her family in the States call her "Maree" but her family over here call her "Mari" .. go figure ??? I think most older generation Australians pronounce "Marie" as "Mari".

it was my mothers surname, Yugoslavian custom I guess, to give it to your child as a middle name & my father is Mexican so the Yugo/Mex combo names looks confusing to people. I hated it as a kid but I love it now because it's unusual and reminds me of her & her ancestry.

She just dislikes the name. She never told me why, she just said that when she was younger she preferred people call her Marie.
I remember a friend of hers from elementary school came by to visit and she was sitting in our living room and she asked me how Elizabeth was doing in school and I had to ask "Who?" because as long as I've known her, she's been Marie. It would be weird to call her anything else.

Last time I gave my middle name on this board I was told it was "Ghey" . I don't know why.
anyway; It's Michael. My confirmation name is Joseph, though I don't use it, at all, ever!

Maybe it was called ghey because everybody has the middle name Michael.

yes, exactly. BTW, my parents are HUGE fans of The Waltons....that's how they finally decided on my name, Erin...after one of the Walton girls...thank goodness they didn't name me Michael. :o

If I had been a boy (my mom and dad didn't know my gender until I was born), I was going to be named after my grandfather. So my name would have been Joseph Patrick.

My actual middle name: Wayne.
I go by it, because I don't really like my first name.
Had I been born a girl, I would be "Rebecca Ellen".
Had I been born on another planet, I would have been....something else.

I was s'posed to be a Gregory, but my dad went to Uni with a gay guy named Gregory, so for fear that I would remind him of that guy, my mom decided to name me Jason :D

where are you from originally?
Just based on age, I can name 3 Jasons under 30 on the Minnesota Twins , and I can name a handful of Jasons that I know personally, that are under the age of 30. Same goes with Andrew.

See, I'm from England originally, but I've lived in France and the US and have never known anybody called Jason. Three countries, not one. ;D

hmm what would be the french equivalent of Jason? Gaston? At any rate, it is quite the popular name here in the States. Or it was circa 1975 to 1985.

Right.. I dunno, it's weird. I know more Steve's than anybody else on the face of the earth, but no Jason's.

Steven or Stephen (Stephon, Stephan, Stefan, Stefano , Steve, Stevie ) I guess would be more of an 'international' name .

That really is a southern thing. Calling people by their middle name. I often get called by my middle name by Family, but not by anybody else.

Actually I'm called my middle name because I'm the third. My grandpa went by Hoss or Red(family called him Hoss, friends called him Red, because of his red hair) and my dad goes by Wes. Out of three different people with the name, none of them have used Wallace. ;D
Because it sucks, its too stilted and formal sounding. And no good nickname, Wally sounds fruity. :P

I considered it. Sadly, I was the only one that liked it.
And he's only the spawn when we're at home. Take him out in public and he acts like the perfect angel.

Hmmm...so you like to be known by your middle name? That's fine...I've known some people in my lifetime who've had that preference. ;)
