Subject: It's too darn hot............

Gawd it's 34 today and I am so hot and tired which means I really can't be arsed to work and I'm here until 7pm tonight :(
Do you prefer it when the weather is hot or cold?

Dunno...but I'm not going out there...
Amazing how a bit of heat (or cold, even) really fouls up our transport 'system'...took me an hour and a half to travel 14 miles last night - wonderful...
Thankfully, a drenching (and cooler weather) is on its way...

It's been mild here for the past few days...however, today is supposed to be in the high 80's or low 90's....YUCK! I liked it much better when it was in the 70's.

Any way it dam' well likes!
Real extreme searing heat can 'warp' the tracks, but normally overheated rail 'points' and signals suddenly going kaput are the order of the day...
Assuming you have found a train which is going somewhere, you'll then find that...
1. It's packed to the rafters (making it even hotter)...
2. It will trundle along at 5mph because of the kaput signals...
3. 'Air-con'? What's that then?!
4. You'll get sat next to someone who hasn't had a both in a week...!
Ah! The joys...!

That it can...
It's not so much a problem nowadays because the track is made longer, so there's less 'expansion points', therefore less bits to buckle...heat compensation is made mostly at the 'points', and these are the things most likely to be a casualty, either summer or winter...
That, and signals spontaneously combusting...

You haven't been to the Netherlands then...?
Our trains do not run in whatever weather - falling leafs in autumn and frost in winter can cause serious problems, as does extreme heat.
We like to grumble about it on party's.

Well just as a contrast it's monsoon weather outside now and we have flash flooding !
To join in on the train theme, I also travel by train to and from work.On saturday I stood for an hour and a half with the sun beating down relentlessly. There were no trains, no announcements, the screens were down and all the staff could say was 'The trains are all delayed we don't know when they will arrive'
Yesterday a load of passengers 'mutinied' and smashed their way out of a packed full train after being trapped for an hour waiting for it to continue it's journey.I can't say I blame them !

Nor me...but that sometimes happens on London's Tubes and there's no smashing you way out of those (well, there is, but you wouldn't get far!)

Not me. I don't usually complain about the cold (only if it is sub-zero for more than a week or so). I just can't do heat. My theory is, when it is cold, you can always throw on another sweater or blanket but when it is hot, there is just so much you can take off.

I'm sorry but I must disagree, Cat. My theory is that I get SO cold in Winter and it takes me forever to warm up whereas in the Summer heat I can just jump in the cool shower and I'm instantly comfortable. Average humidity in Christchurch (where I live) is generally around the 20-30% mark, where-as further north (Auckland) it's more 80-90% :P Christchurch is a very dry city in the summer time. Fires are banned during summer due to the fact it's so dry, and we get very severe droughts :-X

It'll be nice to actually get back into bed again!
You're right Paul - and actually put a blanket on instead of nothing or just a sheet!

I'm sorry but I must disagree, Cat. My theory is that I get SO cold in Winter and it takes me forever to warm up whereas in the Summer heat I can just jump in the cool shower and I'm instantly comfortable. To be fair though, I live where there is very low humidity so it makes things a lot easier to deal with ;)
I think the humidity is what makes the difference. Plus I don't have a nice cool shower at work or air conditioning

What bugs me is...it's yet another duplicate thread! We already have one about the weather :-\\
It wasn't meant to be a duplicate thread about the weather it was mearly a thread about it being too hot and whether people like the weather hot or cold.I guess I should have phrased it better but I was tired, fed up and too hot ! I will go back and edit my first post to make it clearer.............

Not me. I don't usually complain about the cold (only if it is sub-zero for more than a week or so). I just can't do heat. My theory is, when it is cold, you can always throw on another sweater or blanket but when it is hot, there is just so much you can take off.
Cat
I agree Cat though I hate being too cold to ! Spring and autumn are my favorite times of year.

Like I said up there ^, humidity is everything. Hot weather is nice with little to no humidity, but is bloody awful with high humidity.

Yes, a cool shower will cool you down but only for so long. How many showers can you take in one day? In the winter when I am cold, I jump into a hot bath and afterwards I bundle up and I am fine. BRING ON THE SNOW!!!

New York should be hot up until Monday when the humidity lowers and temperatures should be 80-85 degrees.

Gawd it's 34 today and I am so hot and tired which means I really can't be arsed to work and I'm here until 7pm tonight :(
Do you prefer it when the weather is hot or cold?
Somewhere in between, like the 60-70 range(Farenheit, not Celcius). :)
