How long did you have to wear braces?

I wore braces from May 1993 to December 1995. My teeth were growing in crooked so I had to wear 'em. During that time, I couldn't eat any crunchy food or drink soda gog; I handled that pretty well. It amazed me that some kids who had 'em didn't take care of 'em. But me, I was real good about it; I knew it had to be done, so I didn't eat or drink anything that would damage them. My mom had to wear braces for eight months (January-September 1996, but just on her lower teeth) because she had some lower teeth that were crooked.

As for glasses...I have never had to wear them. But my mom wears contacts and reading glasses, and my dad (and all of his family) wear eyeglasses, but not me.

I sucked my thumb from 1974-1985 so I wound up needing braces to correct my teeth.So after 11 years old,I Also needed retainers.

Never needed braces (I have perfect teeth, dont'cha know?  ::) ), and i've never wore glasses either, but if I did wear them i'd look pretty clever, and i'd have to change my name to SAK  :D ;D

I've got glasses, but typically wear contacts out in public. (I think I look more attractive in glasses, but, albeit they have the same prescription, my contacts are a lot better for my vision as opposed to my glasses.) I've been to a couple different orthodontists, and each of them says I should expect to have braces put on sometime later this year. (One even said I'll be getting my wisdom teeth - and two other teeth! - pulled too. Oh snap.)

I used to wear glasses..I need a new pair....the pair I lost although they were 'budget' frames..they were kinda cool..wire frame with a little bit of tortoiseshell trim...I'm going to get that same frame when I get the new ones...Dr. Pritz always has cool frames..even the budget(aka Medicare/medicaid)frames are way cool.

And I always wear a baseball-style cap when I go anywhere informal....I have Dale Earnhardt Jr,Dale Sr.,Tony Stewart,and Chevrolet Racing caps...looking for a Kasey Kahne one now...

Well, since I still wear glasses, and I saw a Yahoo Spider viewing this...I thought I'd bump it. I need to get my eyes checked again, it's been too long, and these current glasses just aren't doing the trick anymore. :-\\

I had contacts years ago, and they were pretty neat. I used the soft ones though because I have allergies. I'd get them again, but now my face looks weird without glasses. :P

It still cost quite a bit though because the glasses we liked were beyond the limit of the deal, so we had to pay extra. That's the only catch. :P

that happened to me once at this place near me. They advertised 2 pairs of glasses plus an eye exam for X amount of dollars (seemed too good to be true)....by the time I had my eye exam, and picked out my 2 pair of glasses....it ended up costing $150.00 more than they claimed it would be...so I opted to only buy the one pair, to make the amount less.

I had to wear a head gear when I was 14.. before they put the braces on. I had braces for 3 yrs.. to correct crowded lower teeth and a HUGE overbite. (My nickname was Bucky Beaver or Goldy Gopher )
:(  I started wearing glasses when I was 14 also.. and back in the 80's those humongous Tootsie frames were in style.. so they covered half my face.  I ended up getting braces again as an adult because my lower teeth had shifted.  Now I have a permanent cemented in retainer.

I only need my glasses to see far away.. and I am able to pass my drivers license exam by squinting. So I have no restrictions on my license. I don't usually go without them though, when driving.

I guess that makes sense... mine weren't totally messed up. I guess the more screwy they are, the longer it'll take for them to straighten up.

Yeah I can't wear contacts either for the same reason. Me no likey sticking things in my eye.

I also wore braces for a very long time - actually the same amount of time as Alex (the Dude). I got them in November of 1992 and got them off around May of 1999. It was the strangest feeling to get them off. I wore a spacer at the top of my mouth for those long seven years and it eventually caused a permanent indentation on my tongue. After I got my braces off, I got a retainer and a night retainer. I wore them for about a year and a half and then I lost them both. When I found them, my teeth had already shifted too much to fit the retainer back in. All in all, I am fine with my teeth as they are. They have shifted slightly, but this could also be due to my wisdom teeth crowding them in a bit. Maybe that will change when I get them removed.

As for glasses, I have been consistently wearing reading/driving glasses for over a year now. I can hardly read street signs now without them on, so I am forced to be nerdy-nerdy while I drive and have to get somewhere I've never been to.  I may actually need updated glasses because I feel like my vision has already deteriorated more since last year. So, I'll look into that soon.

When I got my braces off the first time, the orthodontist waited TWO WEEKS to give me my retainers.. and they were these slip in kind.. and my lower teeth had already shifted... and the thing didn't fit my teeth. I got braces again when I was about 30 or 31.. and only had to wear them for a year that time around. and they put the retainer in immediately and it's a cemented in one.. so my lower teeth are still nice and straight.

I hope to get some new glasses before the end of this year. I am gonna use up my flexible medical spending money..

my lower retainer is cemented in. My top one, I still have it, but I don't wear it any more.

I wore braces from the time I was in second grade until fourth grade.  My teeth were all messed up.  My permanent teeth started coming in before I'd lost most of my baby teeth, so I had to have 11 baby teeth pulled and then braces.  I also had a big space between my two front teeth.  I was supposed to wear retainers afterward, but I "accidentally" lost them.   ;D

And starting this Tuesday, I'll wear glasses.

The only thing I wear is glasses, never had to do the whole braces thing.
