Hey...I met Richard Simmons when I was really young!!  I was about 5 or so and we were at our local mall, he was there in the center court for some special program.....after the show, he started walking out...the crowd was cheering...he walked right past me and then backed up and stood right in front of me, smiled, said hello...and patted me on my head!! LOL!

I agree. His videos are real fun..I have a few myself. And yes...he has helped many people lose weight...and you can tell that he is very sincere and really cares about his cause.  He seems like a very kind person to me.

There is this family that we know of...the wife is extremely obese (i'm talking like 600+ lbs)....and the husband didn't know what to do, he was so worried about her.  So I guess he got in contact with Richard Simmons and told him about his wife...and Richard was actually gonna come out to them and help her lose the weight. I don't know what ever happened because I don't see them anymore (he used to be a patient at the chiropractor's office that I worked at ages ago). So...that goes to show what kind of heart he has.

That must be why he's liked by some people. For me, I'm not sure what his appeal is but he keeps showing up on television every now and then.

I do remember years ago (20?) he was on some talk show and he was asked what originally motivated him to lose weight. I don't recall the full story but he basically said someone had left a note on his car saying: "Overweight people die young. Please don't die". He said it so surprised and saddened him that he decided to do something about his weight problem. Anyone else heard that story?

I can answer that. Even though he exercises a lot on his vids, no doubt he has hit a plateau of sorts over the years. Not to mention that as we get older, it's harder to keep the weight off. And there's always temptations...

They were hypocrats. Tammy "Baye Fakker" wears enough make-up in one day to supply a company's preformance of Cats for a year! There was this tee shirt that had a big blob on it and said, "I ran into Tammy Faye at the mall". They got in BIG trouble with (I believe) the IRS and started taking away all their "stuff" including an air conditioned dog house. I remember Tammy Faye crying because they were down to their last $100,000. Poor baby, huh? Jim totally lost it before he was sent to jail. I heard that he was crying and huddled in a corner under a table in the courtroom. They had divorced and Tammy Faye moved on to some other idiot guy. She made a few guest apperences on the Drew Carey Show as Mimi's mother. Appropate since Mimi is also known for wearing tons of make-up.  ::)

I'm only guessing that Richard Simmons is a celebrity by name only? The way 'Mad' Lizzie Webb, Green Goddess and 'Mr Motivator' were 'fitness celebrities' back in the 80s/90s, people famous for not a great deal in particular.

Richard Simmons is virtually unheard of in the UK and I think we are better off as a result.  ;D

I think it's because he was really overweight at one point and then he dropped a lot of it. Losing a lot of weight usually leaves excess skin, which is what his flab looks like, and I don't think he's ever had it removed. His legs are pretty toned though, if you can see past the tanning oil. :P

Oh I never said I didn't like him just his hair, I think he does amazing things with people who have weight issues. I wouldn't know I only weigh 238lbs. I tried his sweatin to the oldies tape once and almost keeled over. Now I am back on the road to being healthy  losing weight  eating right exercising and not smoking since June 3rd.
Maybe when I get in better shape I'll give it another go. But right now I have to do cardiac rehab again cause I didn't tske care of myself after my bypass.
