I don't like it when people smoke in public places. But if the place allows smoking, I just ignore it.

I don't think smoking should be allowed in hospitals, etc. but I think in most cases it should be up to the owner of the business if he/she wants to allow smoking or not.  I think it should be allowed in bars, bowling alleys, etc. but I still think the business owner should be able to prohibit it if they want to.

Banning smoking in public places such as restaurants, stores, amusement park I'm totally fine with BUT smoking outdoors(with the exception of a crowded sidewalk or parade) should never be banned, that would be a bit much.

I was thinking about it... is it REALLY $2000? I can understand a fine, but.. TWO THOUSAND? I think excessive fines have no point, either reasonable fines or jail time. And for something as trivial as lighting a cigarette {not to downplay it, I just find two thousand dollars ridiculous}, too... don't make sense.

I agree.  I can't sit too close to the smoking sections in restaraunts.  It's hard to breathe.
Smoking is a smelly habit.  My mom & her boyfriend smoke, and when my kids stay with them she washes their dirty clothes and folds them before they come home.  I appreciate the effort, but I always have to rewash them to get rid of the smell.  :P

Someone put up the argument of  having "Smoke Free" bars as well as "Smoker only" bars.

that's not a bad idea, and non-smokers would be allowed in the "smoker only" bars they'd just have to realize that they're subjected to smoke.

I don't mind it in most places, mostly because I used to wait tables and I am used to the smell of it....but I don't think it should be allowed in restaurants, and places like that.......but bars, bowling alleys, etc are a different story...I see no problem with doing it there...it kinda goes with the territory.

You don't "HAVE TO" suffer.. like I said, it should be up to the business owner... if the owner allows smoking and you don't like it, don't patronize his business.  Go to a non-smoking establishment instead.

What if, say, you enjoy eating at a certain chain. You could get something similar, but there's nothing quite like that places food. You like it more then any competitor, and it would never be quite the same anywhere else. Or, it's a chain that has no competitors. No chain is like this at all, and you love it.

Now say every franchise allows smoking. You can't escape it, but By God, you love that restaurant! What then?

Then you do the same thing a smoker would do if his FAVORITE one of a kind restaurant was NONSMOKING.  You make a decision!

I take it the fines go to the bar/restaurant owner, not the individual, which is what happens over here. If someone lights up inside the bar and gets caught, the bar owner will get charged, not the individual. Sounds crazy, but it's true.

I love that retaraunts and bars having begun to ban it in thier establishments. Maybe they should have some bars made JUST for smokers....then those of us who don't like to go home with filthy smelling clothes and hair wouldn't have to be subjected to it at all and the smokers can be free to hack up all the portions of thier lungs one smoldering lugi at a time, can kill each other in peace, without being "Annoyed" by those who enjoy thier health :)

I voted "Don't Like It", but isn't that the same as "Disgusting Habit"?

I don't think they should ban it entirely because that would be just too hard for those who do already smoke. I also think it's okay to have some smoking sections inside public places (not in hospitals, doctors' offices...  ::) ) with large non-smoking areas being completely sealed off so non-smokers like myself don't have to suffer. What I mean is that I went skiing in Quebec, for instance, and the bar inside the lodge had two sections: smoking and non-smoking. But I could still inhale the smoke because I was just placed in an area by the windows a few tables away and there was no glass or even a low wall to help barricade the smoke! What's the point in that?!

Just kidding.  But I find smoking in public places (and pubic places) inconsiderate.

doesn't bother me that it is baned, I still smoke in public places. Outdoor public places that is.

I am glad bars and restaurants are smokefree now down here. I'm also amazed at how many smokers agree with the legislation aswell.  :o

Smoking is a bad addiction, and I am glad I haven't fallen into the trap, so to speak.  :)
