Subject: How do you write the date?
Written By: bbigd04 on 04/21/05 at 11:36 pm
I ask this because I was asking my niece how she writes the date and she says she writes out the entire 2005 vs. just 05 like I do, I was wondering how many other people do that too or use the european forms. I write it the 4/22/05 way.

I write either 04/22/05 (if I'm filling out a form or something writing a professional letter)
For more casual stuff I leave off the first 0 and just put 4/22/05

I think the only occasion we deviated to the 'month first' way was after the Twin Towers attacks...

"Other".
If at all possible, I try to stick to the international standard notation, as specified in ISO 8601.
That is: 2005-04-22

Amazing! There's actually an International Standard way of writing it...?!!
I wonder how many boffins it took to dream that one up...!

ISO 8601

They tried to standardise it after the Y2K problem.

22.04.05 is how i would write it.
.'s instead of /'s
Of course, when i get to the states i will write it 04.22.05.
Unless i want to annoy people.
Then i'll write it..
X to the power of 94,324 . A***L. Guess?

Nope ! I hear 9/11 and whilst I KNOW what it symbolises, it still means the 9th of November :)

If I was writing today, I'd either say 4/22/05, or April 22, 2005.
It's funny, but until high school (!) I didn't even know most people in the UK reversed the month and the day. I could figure it out if it was after the 13th (i.e. Christmas would be "25/12") but imagine how confusing it was to tell March 7th from July 3rd, LOL.

Other: I always write it 22 Apr 05-or sometimes I spell out the month instead of abbreviating it or put 2005 (22 April 2005). That way there is absolutely no confusion. The only time I do the numbers thing is when the month and the day are the same. (4/4/05)

Dai was away somewhere with work. Tolouse I think. Luckily they managed to start flights again by the time he had to come back.

Normally I write it in the format m/d/yy (without leading zeroes). (For example, two weeks ago, I wrote 4/8/05.) I also use the format m/d/yyyy (full year) occasionally.

I'm still used to the way we did it in the military, so I either do 050422 or 22 Apr 05, but I also find my self doing 04-22-05. I guess it just depends on what my hand decides to do. :P

We write it as 22/4/05 (copied from the British way of doing it)
I don't think I know of anyone who writes the year first...? (05/22/4)
Subject: Re: How do you write the date?

i can never be bothered with extra zero's so I do 23/4/05 and at work they are particular about writing the month in letters so I do it as 23Apr05.
In our work letters it has to be 23 April, 2005 - note that they have now eliminated the need for st, nd, rd and th in most government letters here ie 1st 2nd 3rd 4th etc.

Nope ! I hear 9/11 and whilst I KNOW what it symbolises, it still means the 9th of November :)
What I was attempting to put across was the fact that when the incident occurred, all British news reports would not refer to it as '11th September' as would normally be the case...whether that was to do with the obvious American slant on things, I couldn't say...
Working in the legal profession (allegedly!), there are some of our learned dinosaurs friends who insist of using Roman numerals for the month, i.e., 23-IV-05...
Which reminds me it's St. Georges' Day today...where's me flag...?
**hoists flag**
**salutes**
**flag falls down**
