What are you listening to now? I'm a big Modest Mouse fan, but I'm not listening much right now. Voltaire, The Ws, Ween, Violent Femmes, and Neutral Milk Hotel are my most frequently listened to right now. You?

Good topic - I think music has improved in the last year or so. I've gotten into the Killers, Collective Soul (90's band, but I love their newest album YOUTH), the Bravery, Bowling for Soup (they did the "1985" song!) and a UK band called Kaiser Chefs - sound like a modern Clash/Ramones mix.
Also like Lisa Marie Presley's new cover of Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry".

Not necesarilly, LOL. ;)
Even though I've always been a 'mainstream pop/rock' kinda guy, I'm into a few of those bands. Megadeth & Anthrax have a few good songs ('Deth's Youthanasia album, and Anthrax's 80's stuff).
Iced Earth also sounds familiar - are they kind of an Iron Maiden meets 90's metal sound? That's what I heard.

The new Iced Earth has the ex-singer from Judas Priest, they are not near as heavy anymore, but they have an 80s metal feel

^ Ripper Owens? He's not a bad singer in his own right - but totally unlike the 80's Judas Priest sound with Rob Halford.
Maybe I'll check out an Iced CD - anything that sounds 80's is cool by me!

I was used to the old singer Matt Barlow, They kind of remind me of a mixture of 80s metallica and Iron Maiden, the speed of metallica and the high pitched vocals of Iron Maiden

Some of these bands I have already mentioned a couple times but they fall into this catagory.
The bands I find my self listening to right now:
Nightwish
Within Temptation
Therion
Charon
In Flames
Dimmu Borgir
The Gathering
Theatre of Tragedy
Everclear
Tantric
Sevendust
Blessid Union of Souls (mostly their older stuff)
Silverchair
This list probably changes monthly except for a select few like Everclear that will always be on that list.

I saw Dimmu Borgir, Children of Bodom, Nevermore and Hypocrisy live in Atlanta, metal shows are really cool, they play small clubs and you usually get to meet band members

If Ozzfest had stopped in Atlanta last year I would have gotten to see Dimmu Borgir. Ozzfest is skipping Atlanta again this year too, though I am thinking about going to the Charlotte date since In Flames is playing second stage this year. I went when it was last in Atlanta in 2003 and the second stage bands if you wait a little bit in line you can meet the bands, can't really talk to them for very long though. I did get to meet the bassist (I believe it was) of Chevelle though and got to talk with him, which was pretty cool.

I've never been to a live rock concert.
Don't think I'd want to, unless it was an old school band. Today's rockers are too violent and rowdy at concerts. I'd rather sit out on the grass on a blanket, tokin up..:P

Dimmu played Atlanta last year on one of thier days off, I think the ozzfest was in North Carolina, so they added a date, I didn't get to go, I saw them in late 2003

I'll ask The Boy and see if he has any of their material, after all he is the one who turned me on to
the other bands I have mentioned.
you can go to www.myspace.com and do a search under the music section for those 2 bands...and their myspace pages will come up...on the page is a sampling of their music.

Oh, I forgot all about Lovedrug. And well, yeah, Elliott Smith, of course.
Oh, yes! I just got on another Elliott Smith kick! And The Flaming Lips! And... Ben Folds.

These are all the bands I've been listening to a good deal in the past few weeks.
The Killers
The Strokes
Metallica
System of A Down
Ben Folds
Bob Marley
Death Cab For Cutie
Since you listen to The Strokes and The Vines, you should try The Hives and Ok Go..
I personally recommend Ok Go more!

I liked the album 'Black Cherry', a nice mix of dance and ambient. I'll have to check out the other stuff when I have the time.
Get Supernature. I'm not a fan of Felt Mountain, so I wouldn't recommend that.

Well, God's will was for the chicken to cross the road. Unless the event came that the chicken was run over, in which case God's plan for the chicken was to be an example of why you should be cautious and look both ways before crossing the street.
