Subject: Some Of The Dumbest "Made Up" Words/Terms

Written By: RockandRollFan on 03/06/05 at 9:26 am

What are some of the more idiotic words you've heard that were invented, mostly via commercials. For starters I'd say that TP commercial from a few years ago that said
"Strong + Soft = STROFT!

And speaking of commercials... this thing creeps me out more than Michael Jackson :o

I made up a word one time and still use it from time to time. Grrr-head meaning a grouch.  "You are just being a grr-head today".

Remember all the loony words of the early 90's from stuff like the ninja turtles:
Tubular, Bodacious, cowabunga,

or what's up with half words like izit, 'sup, yo, thang, all that funky stuff where everyone tries to be hip and trendy.

I know; I've lived in the L.A. vicinity all my life and have heard it used all my life. I sometimes use it myself.

Now to phrases/terms that I think fit this topic:

How about the word "dope" used as an adjective? ::)

"Trippin" as slang for "bluffing."

Shimmy.

And i honestly don't know what this word is supposed to mean  ;D

Depends how you are hearing it being used ?

#1  Abnormal vibration or wobbling, as of the wheels of an automobile.
#2  A dance popular in the 1920s, characterized by rapid shaking of the body.
#3  A chemise

Although I have heard it used to describe climbing, like for a smooth tree or a drainpipe

"Shimmied up the tree"  ???

Nope, none of the above, unfortunatley.

I have heard it used much the way, awesome, Rad and cool have been used.

The word "Chuck" always preturbed me. Mainly because a snotty blonde woman kept saying that during our therapy sessions in 1986.

I can "shimmy" with the best of 'em! :D

My 82 y.o. mother has always used in relation to climbing.  As kids we were always being asked "can you just shimmy up that tree and grab that mango"  or whatever it was she wanted.  My brother actually shimmied once too often and broken both arms :o

I've just remember one I hate "biatch" - I think that's how it's spelt.  My kids use it all the time. :P  I don't know how they think using that word is any better or worse than using "b!tch".

Although this word is actually in the dictionary, I think it's one of the dumbest.

irregardless

It makes no sense.  It means the same thing as regardless.

Normally when you put "ir" in front of a word it means the opposite. ::)

I know! I feel that if you put "ir" and the new word means the same thing, that's a contradiction. ::)

Just like inflammable. I looked that up in the dictionary a long time ago and it meant the same thing as flammable. But doesn't the prefix "in" mean "not"? If that were the case, then "inflammable" should mean "not flammable" (anything but flammable), right? ::)

My ex-boyfriend and his friends used to use the term jump-off profusely. It can mean anything, a person or thing. So basically I would sit and be subjected to hours off "Yo son, I just got this new jumpoff and I was gonna got to the crib with this other jumpoff and use it ch'nawhatimean?"

The funny thing was when ever my ex was not around his buddies, he would switch back to normal english again.

It's a yiddish word for the skin left over from circumcision. It's not made up.

Please tell him to stop using the word incorrectly! It's a word meaning something that's setting something off (or getting something started).

Twerk, as in "Twerk your body" (dancing)

Bia' (another charming version of Biatch)

Shag and Snog (sorry to anyone from the UK)

Schpladow, this word has no true meaning it just emphasizes a story

Example: Yo' I saw this fly honey twerkin it hard up in a club. So I stepped to her and said "What up boo?" and yo check this honey musta been from london or sumthin cuz she asked if I knew how to shagand snog. I didn't know what that Bia' was talking about but I hooked her upSCHHHPLADOW...it was a wrap!
