Subject: Irresistable Food Aromas
Written By: CeramicsFanatic on 05/19/04 at 1:40 pm
I got the idea for this thread as I was sitting in my backyard the other day and got a wonderful whiff of garlic that a neighbor was cooking. So what food scents drive you crazy? :D
Here are a few of my favorites.....
1. sauteed garlic
2. sizzling bacon
3. fresh baked bread
:)

Barbeque. Whenever the woman downstairs barbeques the smell wafts up into my place and it makes my mouth water.

Got to agree with your choices Karen. If used to live next door to Indian people and some afternoons my mouth would be watering from the aromas wafting into our yard.

Mm...can't argue with those, Karen - 'specially the bacon...(it's said that if there's ever an aroma which could 'turn' a vegetarian, it's that...)
I also adore the aroma of a just-roasted joint (no, not that sort!), whether it be beef, lamb, pork - what have you...

I'm darned-near a food addict, so almost any and all smells are irresistible to me.
I can only think of a few that do nothing for me like fish and broccoli being steamed. :P

Went to the Krispy Kreme store last night to get donuts for my oldest's bday treats today and let me tell you, before I even went in, my mouth was watering. The worst thing for someone on a diet to do is walk into one of those. I restrained myself, though, and only licked my fingers after giving the kids theirs. :P
That takes a lot of willpower. Well done.
Also wishing a happy birthday to your oldest child, 80s cheerleader. :)

I love the smell of fried stuff, although I hate the taste. Fortunately greasy spoons don't charge for the smell. They ought to charge people to smell the food and spoon small helpings into the mouths of passers-by.

Fresh baked bread is my #1. (Thankfully, it isn't necessary for me to be on a low carb diet ;D)
Breakfast smells (bacon and coffee, especially)
all the combined smells of Thanksgiving dinner

I'm for the baked bread, but I prefer the fresh coffee cake or cinnamon rolls made by hand so the cinnamon and brown sugar are enough to make the neighbors wish they were invited to partake coffee with me.

I love the smell of Thanksgiving morning cooking. My mom always makes homemade stuffing to put in the turkey and I can always remember smelling sauteed onions in butter at first....and then after she added the bread, etc....it smelled SO good!
I also love the scent of blueberry (candles, candy, body spray, anything)....but I don't like blueberries themselves.
I love the scent of a good Italian meal (complete with homemade garlic bread and a big salad).
Erin :)
