OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW  :-[  I have one.

Went to the Perth premier of We Will Rock You last night - didnt need to gatecrash the party this time - had my own special invite :)

Free alchohol and me - not good.  very not good !

Show was fantastic, front row seats fantastic.  Party fantastic - gave my business cards to the entire cast and the producer and swore blind I would build them websites each !!!!  Drank. Danced with my favourite actors.  Drank.  Vaguely remember re-enacting scenes from Grease on the dance floor.  Drank.  Accosted Ben Elton about 14 times.  Drank.  Took a thousand photos.  Discussed Robert Grubbs role in movie Gallipoli and told him how we had been discussing the ending on this site.  DRANK.  Robert told me I didnt look old enough to remember Gallipoli being released !!!  DRANK.

Crawled home around 3.30am.  DIED !

Woke up at 11 with a foul hangover.  I havent felt like this since I was a teenager.  Oh my poor old head.  When do the shakes stop !!!!!!!!!

I have to suss out the photos - if I look drunk and have double chins - I aint posting any here !!!!!

Sounded like one helluva time, BMG (and one helluva hangover too...!)

Not seen the show myself, it's still running here and has confounded a lot of critics' opinions by starting off and remaining popular...

Hangover, you poor thing? A specialised subject of mine...!

The first (and only) golden rule is, before you hit the sack regardless of what condition you're in, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS drink copious amounts of water, as much as you can stand - basically a hangover is dehydration...

Contrary to what people say, black coffee will do you no good...

Some swear by the 'fry-up' to get 'em going in the morning, but if you can stand it, try a medium-hot curry...

Failing that - 'hair of the dog', but that just starts it off all over again...!

Cheers! (Hic!)

Oh my I thought I was the only one who had a hangover at 7....besides Drew Barrymore.
Everytime my mom would drink I would sneak sips of her vodka when she wasn't looking. One day she smelled it on my breath and instead of scolding me. She poured me a small cup and said "Here, let's party". Feeling very grown up, I drank the whole thing. I woke up hours later dizzy, naseous with a pounding cranium. When I went to my mom complaining she said, "Oh no I thought you was a big girl drinkin, you don't need mommy or her tylenol. now go outside and play."
I didn't touch liqour again until I was 17.

I rarely drink enough to result in a hangover, but I do remember one that really messed with my stomach!  :(

Yes, My dad left a bottle of cherry brandy on the floor (both when I was 4 and 7) and I got up early and decided to have a drink!  Not suprisingly I don't remember much around that time!  Apparently I was like a rag doll when they tried to pick me up. I didn't drink again until I was around 18. My parents remind me of this story every so often! and I can't drink cherry brandy even now!.

hehehehe gotta luv how everyone has a special hangover cure !!!

Yep Paul I knew the water trick - my bed was surrounded by bottles of water !!! I guzzled all night.
But I dont think I had my first cup of tea till 4pm and I tried some toast at about 8pm !  Matey go see the show !!  Trust me - I flew to Melbourne three times to see it and am seeing it in Perth 3 times too.
And if Ben comes thru with his 2am drunken promise - I am going to the Premier in Sydney in October !!!!!

I refuse to listen to critics - my theory has always been that they dont pay for their ticket and they generally are going to see something because its a job not because they actually want to see it.

Give me a review by a paying customer and I would listen.

I watched some poncy review show here - three people getting awfully in depth about stuff (books/films/plays/tv shows - everything basically) - they sit there and compare Survivor with Animal Farm and I feel like sceaming "Its popcorn entertainment - just watch and enjoy - dont over analyse it".
Anyway on this particular day (the night after WWRY's first rehearsal in Melb) they were ripping WWRY to shreds - it was awful.  They all gave it low ratings.  Then the host says "so are you planning to go see it" and everyone said No.

How can they validate reviewing something they havent physically seen ????????????

Ben Elton doesnt specialise in brain surgery.  But he does happen to be a fabulous writer.
Queen are not bio physisists - but they write great songs and play a mean riff.
Put the two together and you have a great night of entertainment and thats what I pay my money for.

OK I am feeling brave - here is a pic of drunkee sloshed Ben Elton and Me - I blacked out my friends cos they probably dont want their drunken mugs all over the net !!  And a funny pic of Ben dancing.

Wow! That must have been amazing BMG! I like Ben Elton - especially since he co-wrote lots of good stuff like Blackadder.

Eugh! Hangovers . . . The last time I had a hangover was last year. I was so violently ill (I get no headaches, just a violently swirly belly). I went to a barbecue and I was so drunk I fell into my friend's bush (pardon the expression) - I swear I was pushed.  :D

I don't know if this is how a lot of critics operate, but I'm sure if they can't see 'highbrow entertainment', then they'd rather no-one watched it...

Of course, everyone's entitled to their own opinion - but getting Joe Public and his wife's backside on the seats and leaving them wanting more is the net result most promoters would rather have...!!

A 'quickie' poll of the office tells me that 12 people have seen it, and 11 'thoroughly enjoyed it'...1 said it was 'alright'...basically says it all...

Brilliant pics of youself and Ben...

Thanks for posting the pics BMG.  I love Ben Elton.  I love his books and style of humour.

Re the critics and reviewers - a friend of mine works for Queensland Performing Arts.  When she works front of house, she often has to allocate seats to reviewers.  She says that they are very uppity and are terribly offended if they (and their "hangerons") are not allocated best seats.  She says unhappily seated critic = poor review.  I no longer take any notice of them.  I'd rather listen to the opinion of people that have spent their hard-earned money.

When I went to see Taboo the other week the critics sat infront of me and didn't clap once even at the end which I thought was pretty ignorant. Also one drove me nuts fiddling with her hair the whole time which was really distracting as it was just in the corner of my vision !

As to hangovers I try not to go there these days it takes FAR to long to recover ! But yes gallons of water and a couple of ibuprofen before bed *IF* I'm not to drunk to remember help !!

A bottle of Jägermeister + People daring me to drink it + My problem of not turning down dares = Raging hangover the next day. :P

My family had to put me to bed. I fought them. I DON'T remember that part, although I remember everything else from that night. :-[

Cat

Well it took a while Cat !!  I returned to work on Thurs but was tired an grumpy all day - while still being on a complete high from the show and party as of course I had to tell all the coworkers about it all.

By Friday I was in Zombie world and floated thru the day in a haze.

I should explain - in previous threads I have explained my extreme insomnia.  Well the last time I slept was between 5am and 11am last Sunday.  Then i had the alcho slumber from dawn till 11am on Wednesday.

Thats it !  Didnt sleep Wed night, Thurs night at all.  Just did my usual laying awake starring at ceiling all night.

So last night I get home from work - all set to sleep till noon and catch up on the weeks lack.  I have some vodka and a "few" sleeping pills around 11pm.  Still wide awake thru the night but finally around 7am I drift off.

ONLY TO BE DRAGGED VIOLENTLY FROM MY SNOOZE at 8.45am by my neighbor playing his PIANO.  At that hour on a weekend morning when the entire street is attempting to sleep in ?

So I sent him a rather nasty text message - something to do with the current location of the piano and its new location if he didnt QUIT NOW.

So now its late arvo and I still havent had any sleep.  ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Gis - i wonder why they were not even polite enough to clap ?  its shows such a lack of respect for the artists on stage - let alone for the writers, directors, producers, musicians, set designers, costume designers and everyone else who had a hand in putting a show together.

Jaytee - so true.  I prefer not to read them.  I think reviews should be done by general audience members as they leave the theatre.  Would be far more honest.

A 'quickie' poll of the office tells me that 12 people have seen it, and 11 'thoroughly enjoyed it'...1 said it was 'alright'...basically says it all...

Oh wow - I just discovered the new "insert quote" thing you can use for multiple quotes !!!

Yep - that indeed says it all Paul !!  Thanks - I luv that pic of me and Ben - much better than the awful one I took with him last year !  I look almost normal in it - despite being smashed !!!

Ok - my current definition of embarrassing.............  :P

Going to see We Will Rock You (yes AGAIN), sitting in centre front row (yes again) and having lead members of the cast (and band) wink and grin at you because they have just recognised you from the big party when you were completely plastered !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went tonite and seriously - you would have thought I was in the actual show - the amount of communication I was getting from the stage.  My friends next to me (who did not actually believe my party tales) were gobsmacked !!

But it was yet again another awesome show.  Am taking mum on Saturday - yep centre front row again !  Seriously - whats it like sitting in those other seats !

And I am at least 4 pages behind in all the posts on this board cos I couldnt get into it all weekend - kept getting server down screens :(  So I have roughly ten days of gossip to catch up on - so no one post any more till I catch up hehehehehehe ;)

But not now cos its quarter to 12 and I have to crawl to bed and get up for work in the morning

night night
