Subject: How Do You Hold CDs?
How do you keep your CDs? Are they all tidy in a giant carrying case? In the original cases sitting on a CD rack? Are they packed in a box? Scattered all around the house, collecting dust, constantly hiding from you?
All mine are currently in the original cases on CD racks, and the burnt ones are in a big carrying case.

Between thumb and forefinger.
Oh no, wait... not the point.
Most of my CDs, I reprint out the covers, keep the covers in a drawer and reslot them into the jewel case, and then pile them to the ceiling while keeping the original covers in several chests of drawers.
But the most important ones, I keep within two double-CD cabinets, about 30 each column.
Then again, there's tons more around which I keep loftwise, and in other rooms. I've just done a major cleanup of my stuff... man, that was difficult!

I've got a 3'x5˝' stained oak rack that I mounted to my wall, that holds about 700 CDs. I managed to get almost 800 CDs on it though! :D

i keep them in a carrying case in alphabetical order by band, albums in order of release date, oldest to newest. same goes for the original cases. burnt mixes go in the back, in order of date of buring, oldest to newest.
VERY bad topic to get me started on...i have a bit of an OCD when it comes to my CD's!

When I was growing up my family did not have a CD player.
Subject: Re: How Do You Hold CDs?
Cd cases on a rack and cds in a few carrying cases.
Subject: Re: How Do You Hold CDs?
I have a HUGE carrying case, in which purchased CDs go first, then misc. burnt CDs, then mix CDs in reverse chronological order.

You're not alone. I could go on and on. ;D

My CD's go in the jewel case alphabetical, burned CD's are filled seprately by band in slimline cases, mixed artists CD filled by date they were burned...
I'm pretty anal when it comes to my CD's, but I can't help it, the music on them is important to me.
It sounds crazy but I DO judge a person on how they store or care of their music collection.
People who don't put their CD's back in the case or set their CD's read side down on funiture drive me nuts! The same people wonder why their CD's won't play or skip, and how their CD's have so many scatches on them ::)
I've actually broken up a relationship with a girl because she couldn't put my CD's back the way she found them!
Subject: Re: How Do You Hold CDs?
I keep all of my CD's by single artist in a large wooden spinner. Most of my CD's are compilations, and I have them sorted by decade in another wooden rack. I keep special compilation series (Sounds Of The Seventies/Eighties) in my entertainment center. :)
Subject: Re: How Do You Hold CDs?
I keep them in their original case on a rack alphebetically by artist by genre (i.e. rock, classical, jazz, etc). Sometimes after listening to one, I don't put it away and just stick it on top of the stereo and after awhile, I will put them all away. It started with one rack-I am now up to three and I still don't have enough room. The ones that don't fit are now sitting on top of the stereo. I really need to get a bigger rack.

I can't stand that either! I have friends who have those little cases that only hold 12 or so CDs--and they seriously pack about 40 or 50 CDs in there! :o Then they get all scratched and smudged. I know it's not my problem--it's just one of my pet peeves, I guess. Personally, I think it's too much money to waste not to be careful with my CDs. That's why only one or two of my CDs skip, and one of them is the first I ever bought.

My CDs are everywhere around my house.......seriously.
Subject: Re: How Do You Hold CDs?
They're all in my CD changer
Subject: Re: How Do You Hold CDs?
Exactly 48 of them are in the cloth cd carrier I bought to carry cds with me to college. The rest of them are sitting on a shelf back home. Then of course many more are stored in digital form on my laptop and my mp3 player.
Subject: Re: How Do You Hold CDs?
The ones that fit are arranged alphabetically in a CD cabinet. Those that don't are stacked atop the TV or here in the office. I keep the cases for the ones that are in the various changers stacked in the order they are in the changer. :P

I've got a wall unit, 4 feet by 8 feet mounted on wheels, which hold around 900 CDs, plus another 50 or so DVDs which holds an alphabetically sorted collection of albums. The new stuff I've bought and the compilations are all in boxes right now. I'm going to filter out the stuff I don't listen to often and file it all away in the boxes, and move the better stuff onto the rack. I've got about 1,800 or so CDs at the moment.
I've got them backed up in mp3 format, and keep them on CD-Rs in a big carrying 180 CD case, with 4 additional carrying cases filled with mp3s of stuff I've collected over the past couple years. I've also got the bulk of it on a portable 120 gig hard drive I keep under my desk at work so I have easy access to most of it.

I didn't mention the 500 or so records, the 100 or so 8-tracks and the casettes I have stowed away in my closet (except for the stuff in the process of being ripped to CD)
Subject: Re: How Do You Hold CDs?
I have two huge books that I keep all my CDs in. I take out the CD booklets and put them in a little slot, then put the CD in in the slot either above it or below it, depending. My books look like a really neat collage of music.
I also keep the jewel cases for some reason. I think it looks really impressive when people see over 300 CD's in little CD towers around my room.
I think I'm going to end up taking out the back cover of the CDs and just getting rid of the jewel cases. Save room for me so I can walk around my room!

At first when I saw this topic on the board, I thought you meant something like, "How do you pick them up? How do you handle them?", but when I clicked on it and read it, I realized the point. ;D
Anyway, I store my CD's in their original jewel cases, on a CD rack. I always store them in their jewel case when not in use because I feel that it keeps them safe that way; also, the lyrics and other information is stored in there.

Well, if you're like me, you pry 'em apart and break a couple of fingernails in the process! But I hate to leave behind any part of the original CD when I transfer them to my carrying cases.
I guess the better question for me is "what do you do with all the leftover jewel boxes" -- i haven't quite figured out what to do with them. i have a whole bunch of them stockpiled, thinking that someday I'll get all artsy craftsy and make a wall hanging or some sort of decoration...

I use an exacto blade and put imbetween where the two different pieces of plastic meet and pry up gently. If you look closely, you'll notice there's a small bump from the tray portion that pokes into the clear case. If you pry there, it's easier to pop one side loose.
Subject: Re: How Do You Hold CDs?
My stereo holds up to 100 cd's, so I pretty much select a number and presto...
Most of my older CD's are in a tower that matches my wall unit
and the rest of my EXTREMELY old cd's are in a cabinet in my dresser.
Subject: Re: How Do You Hold CDs?
I have them stacked in racks occasionally in chronological order.
Subject: Re: How Do You Hold CDs?
I've got a bunch... a big bunch, in shoeboxes and plastic crates in the bedroom closet. I've got some stuck on the top shelf of a bookcase and another bunch of them stuck on the bottom shelf of the television cart. The rest of them are somewhere else, I guess. Probably keeping my old video tapes company.
I've always hauled cds around with me, to work, the gym, the beach, in their original cases. I haven't alphabetized for years. I take good enough care of them (the playing surfaces are rarely ever smudged or scratched), but jewel cases don't transport very well, and they're fragile, so I've got spider cracks and such on a bunch of them.
