Subject: Old messages

It might make sense for me, when I finally get the chance to upgrade the messageboard, to start the boards off empty and put all the current messages (and old messages) into an archive.  Would this terribly upset people?  Would a transition period be ok, say a week or so where both boards operate side by side?

I ask, because the upgrade path from this software, to the new software, requires me to make an intermediate step to a no-longer supported version of the software, and I really don't even want to try it.

I say do what you think is best, Chucky.  :)

I think we still have to have the previous messages in an archive, but other than that, that sounds good.

Whatever you reckon is best, Chucky, sounds good to me.

I say archive away.  As long as people are still able to get to them, I don't see the problem.  It's YOUR board, Chucky, we are all just "guests".  You have to do what will work best for YOU.

Time for some spring cleaning. :)

cool... maybe this will make an upgrade easier/faster.  I have a feeling the messageboard is causing the webserver to crash, but I'm not positive.  Moving it to another server, and using a more stable release will help eliminate that from the probable causes.

As far as I know it will be. ChuckyG will let everyone know if anything should change in that respect.

I'm thinking post counts, user accounts, etc, will all be erased... I'm talking full rebuild.

Basic user data will be intact?

umm.. no.  I don't think so.  If I can import the messages, I can probably import the user data.

It's probably jumping the gun to even say anything, I'm having a hard time even getting the server to work at the moment, let alone get the messageboard working.

God,I hope my post count doesn't erase! It took me well over a year to get to close to 6000. :(
