Subject: Childhood Memories

Written By: Howard on 02/27/04 at 03:55 p.m.

Let's just say for example that today was the last day you were living in your house for a large number of years and you had to sell the house for whatever the mortgage was paid off on your home,What kinda memories would you want to remember from the time that you were born till the time that you had to sell the house OR apartment OR whatever your living place may be? The reason I brought this up was because My Parents,we may be moving to Florida but not for quite a very long time and we've been living here in New York alltogether for 34 years since 1970 and one day My Father wants to finally retire next year at age 64and they don't know whether to put me in a supportive housing apartment or leave with them for Boca Raton. The choice would be up to me.

Now back to the subject at hand.... ;D

Well, hubby and I just built our house 3 years ago, but from my childhood home, my brightest memory is of the cuckoo clock that was in the family room.  The people who bought the house gave my parents extra just to keep it so the last memory I have of the house is sitting in the living room, which was empty except for the cuckoo clock :)

We moved around alot, but everytime we would move, I would get a leaf from one of the trees and press it into a photo album. I still have all of them.

I would remember the days when in my house I was always a "butterfinger" constantly breaking things around the house. That memory will stick in my mind forever.I will never forget those times. ;D

First off...good luck with the decision on whether you stay in New York or go with the folks to Florida.  It will be a tough one for you guys.

As much as I would like to buy a real house and get out of this trailer.  I love it and it would be sad.  This is the only place my baby has ever lived...she took her first steps here.  Her growth chart is on the wall.  It would be kinda sad.

Thanks Dag.Yeah,it will be hard and sad(for my Mother as well) cause this house was the only house I was born and bred in and it did have a whole lot of memories from 1975-now.I don't know exactly what I'm gonna do now but we have a handful of years were just thinking about it and my Parents just came from Florida last week from vacation and they're just concocting it up in their mind so we will see what will happen to me whether I move to supportive apartment or leave with them. But,you know I have had so many thoughts in this household,It's so hard to keep track of them all. ;D

To follow on from Dagwood's sentiments, good luck for the future, Howard. It must be an exciting period of time for you - you must have lived in the same house all of your life (you are nearly 30, living in the same house for 34 years?)

Annieox's method of remembering her different abodes is certainly a different method. I wrote a poem about moving house once, I might have a look around for it.
