Subject: I am officially a Unemployed.
Well, as of Tuesday, I am now unemployed. I had to take Monday off to see my mother in the hospital and my boss called me Monday night and told me not to come in on Tuesday. :o. March 1st would have been one year at that Law firm. Aside from being in total disbelief, I was kind and understanding. Everything happens for a reason. I knew it was coming because I was the only non-family member in the office. They expressed that I had too many ethics....go figure >:(.

What a jerk. Oh well, I'm sure something better will come along. Weren't you thinking of getting a new job anyway? Good luck on the job hunt. At least you can collect unemployment for awhile while you're looking.

I'm sorry to hear that you have lost your job. I got sacked from a job that lasted a year, just over two years ago and thought it was the end of the world.
I got looking and found my best job yet. Things can happen for a reason and this could be the catalyst for something much better.
Nepotism is never a fair battle to face. You're better off out of that job.

thanks for the kind words. I did have a lunch appointment and received an offer last night. It is working in marketing. It was funny because they told me they were waiting for me to quit them in order to work at their clinic. More money by double...expense account and my own hours...I was still hurt by the lack of professionalism displayed by my past employer. I don't qualify for unemployment since they "let me go".

That's cool. Texas must have some weird unemployment laws. Here in IL, if the company gets rid of you, you get unemployment unless you violated company policy, stole, something along those lines. Oh Well, you got a better job, it looks like. Congrats!!

Texas by far has the worst laws concerning employment.
We have what is called an "At will" state. An employer can hire and fire you without any cause. Therefore making it difficult to collect unemployment. Unless you are laid-off or downsized are you allowed to collect. They protect the employers here not the Employee.

Man thats bad Annie - over here you would have cause to go to the tribunal and claim Unfair Dismissal.
I hope the marketing job turns out good for you.

Thanks. Funny thing about it, I will have to market the same people that fired me....well,maybe I'll just skip that office.LOL

Did you check in with the employment office itself? At Will status shouldn't have anything to do with it other than you can't sue them if they let you go for a non-bias reason. If it was just because of this one reason then I don't think that qualifies as just cause, they would need to have addressed lateness or miss worked as a problem that was addressed and documented. I say sign on, if it's disputed then it will be investigated with the firm, the only thing they can do is say no.

Sorry Annie :( That sucks.
I too am unemployed, but that's more by choice...I did line up two interviews though :D

I am really sorry to hear you lost your job.Nowadays its so vital to have a job because there are few out there.Bosses can be pricks especially when they know there are so many people they can easily replace you with.He probably thought that you should have visited your mom in the hospital after work hours so he let you go.But I know something will come up for you. ;)

I will attempt to collect unemployment, all they can do is say no. Nothing was ever documented that I missed too much work. I came in late two times in 1 year and missed approximately 8 days in that year. The company never had "written proof" of anything, They hated paperwork.
SSI doesn't qualify for me, Howard.
Thank you all for your kind words. I think since I spend so much time on the net, I should go into business for myself.
