Subject: Anyone ever thought about the black hole?
I've never seen it so I don't know if it's really there.
Subject: Re: Anyone ever thought about the black hole?
I mean if it is there, shouldn't we see a big black spot in the sky all of the time?
Subject: Re: Anyone ever thought about the black hole?
I guess it would be really small since it would be so far away.
Does anyone else think this?

Scientifically, No, you wouldn't see one. But if you were an astronomer perhaps you would notice a sort of magnetized stellar phenomena pulling smaller stars and other objects toward it and into it. Black holes do not emit light because they are caused/created ? when aging stars finally get so old and so hot that they implode. I can't remember if the hottest temp of the stars is blue or white hot, but when it finally goes "supernova" then it implodes. But this takes hundreds/thousands of years. I think the color in values of temperature is; yellow, red, blue, white. Yellow being a "baby star" and white being the oldest and hottest stars.
And yes, I've seen TheBlack Hole film (Disney?) a few times, tho' not recently, and I always enjoy the story. it's dramatic and science fiction on a small scale.

What do black holes, tornadoes, vacuum cleaners, and Monica Lewinksy all have in common?

It, or them? I thought there were a bunch of them out there.
I haven't thought about it/them lately. The last thing I thought about, which was yesterday at work with a couple of co-workers, was "100 things to do with a 2-liter plastic pop bottle." We came up with these, so far:
1- Use it as a funnel.
2- Grow plants in it.
3- Poke holes in the bottom and use it as a mini-hot house.
4- Use the different colors caps as poker chips.
We've got a ways to go.

You COULD build a vortex machine with two soda bottles too.
You could also take the bottle and make it into a rocket ship.
If you cut off the bottom part of the bottle and duct tape it to a pistol, it acts as a crude silencer.

My mum had a complicated design for a cotton wool ball dispenser made from a pop bottle.
Lakeland sell special caps to fit these bottles to turn them into water sprinklers for your indoor plants.
Part fill with water and lay them on the lawn to keep cats away (allegedly)

You can also buy the sports bottles (the ones with the pull-up caps) and use them to water your plants when you're out of town. You just fill them with water, pull the top up, and put it into the planter upside down. I'm not sure how you're supposed to get the pop-top to stay open, though, as I would think the pressure would close it :-/
Subject: Re: Anyone ever thought about the black hole?
Um... exactly what black hole are we talking about? Black holes are invisible, so they can't be seen, and even if they could be, the Sun is so bright during the day that you can't even see the brightest star, so you wouldn't be able to see a black hole.

Or my daughters bedroom.
Subject: Re: Anyone ever thought about the black hole?
The black hole is my family's nickname for the scary little attic space where we keep our luggage and the boxes for various appliances, and believe me, I'm much more worried about it than some deep space vacuum.
