Subject: Good Advice

Written By: Indy Gent on 02/03/04 at 08:24 p.m.

What was the best advice you followed that turned out in your favor? I have had several advice given to me by several people in my life. But the best for me was looking outside the box. Being a face-value person, that piece of advice really helped me during my high school years.

I can give good advice, but I can't take it.  :-/

My mum always told me if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all.  She always told us when we meet new people to open our hearts and our minds.  I think it's good advice and I tell my kids the same thing.

Jack Handey has much good advice for one.... such as this...... When you're going up the stairs and you take a step, kick the other leg up high behind you to keep people from following too close.

Very wise I feel.

my advice as a teen (and my signature on many websites I hang out on) was told to me by a family friend at the airport as I prepared to leave my friends and family and move to the other side of the world for an indeterminate period of time.

Better to regret the things you do, than the things you dont do.

I will never sit back at aged 80 and say "ahhhh I never got to travel the world, meet amazing people, jump out of airplanes, get a tattoo, had a wedding and a divorce party" etc etc

If you have done it all - at least you have experienced it - good and bad.  Its all an event, an experience.  Live it - without regrets.

Mine has always been to take things as they come and when things come up to try and work through them as quickly as possible so you don't sit and fret over one thing.  Also, like Mike_Florio said always stay optimisitic even when things are gloomy try to look on the bright side of things.  It is amazing how just following something simple like that, how it can reduce your stress level and make you a happier person, which is the main reason I have continued to try and follow it.

My Dad used to say (while trying new foods that I wasnt fond of) that "You have to aquire a taste for everything". So I did, and I have. There are not many foods that I do not like. I don't think I would be this way unless my Dad had said that to me. Thanks Dad.

Lol. Don't forget the other two words 'I'm sorry'.  ;D

I think the best advice I was given was 'Be yourself'. Cliched I know but it's probably the first step to self-respect.  :)

Find all things you have complained about, everything that offended you, everything you raised a big stink about in the past week.  Look at them, seriously.  Generally, if you look closely and without blinders, you find that most of them did not matter at all and you were wasting people's time.  Once you have established this, it should help you follow my main advice:  Quit whining.
