Subject: Can you Drive?

Written By: NullandVoid on 12/16/03 at 11:18 a.m.

Do you drive?
If so, when did you start and what kind of car do you drive?
(If you don't mind me asking)

If you don't drive, What's keeping you from getting behind the wheel?
and last, what's your dream car?

As for me I just got my learner's permit last month, but I have yet to start my first lesson. The first car that I would like to get is a Scion or a Ford Focus. When my drving skills are adequate, I hope to get my hands on a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. I wanna paint it Purple, soup it up and start racing!!
This dream was inspired by me playing hours of Gran Turismo A Spec, I'm an expert!

Let's see, I've been driving for 16 years now.  God, I feel old! ;D

Right now, I drive a 2003 Ford Expedition.  Living in IL, 4WD is a necessity in winter, especially since I live in a rural area that is always the LAST to get plowed.  I also have 3 kids, 2 of whom are in car seats so I need something big to haul them and all the associated junk around.

My dream car would be a 70's model Jaguar XK-E.  They are soooo sweet. 8)

i can't drive yet...i only have to wait until april though. 8)

the car i want would be a red volkswagen cabrio or jetta (same color).  but that won't happen unless i win the lottery/get a job.

I'm going to take the driver's test Saturday to try to get my license.   :-/ My mom's giving me the ruddy '02 hyundai accent, i'm not sure if I spelled that right.

No - I don't drive and probably never will.  I have an anxiety disorder about driving and have attended workshops etc. but still have not been able to overcome my fear of either killing myself or some poor innocent person.  :-[  Sometimes it really is a pain but the public transport around here is fairly good and reliable and my husband, family and friends are great.

Like Jaytee I choose not to drive due to anxiety.

I have a fear of my own reaction ability and do not feel I would cope with having to control a vehicle while keeping an eye on everything else going on on the road in front of me, beside me, and behind me.

Its one of the reasons I sold my house in the suburbs and moved into the inner city - so I can be closer to everything and am no longer reliant on public transport as I can walk to everything.

Strangely - I feel quite ok when piloting a plane or chopper and I am fine piloting a boat too.  So its only cars and roads that are the problem.

Dream car - in the 80's it was Facemans red and white corvette !!  But these days I have totally fallen for the Chrysler PT Cruiser - especially the stunning silver one with lavender flames and lisence plate that says "UWANTIT" that drives past my home each day.
I adore them and at one stage decided that if I won one as a prize - I may even take driving lessons !!!!

I passed my test about 15 years ago.  Currently I drive a Mercedes A-Class.  My husband has an Audi A4 which I get to drive occasionally.  We've got two young children so need cars that can carry all their paraphernalia.

I like the look of the Chrylser PT Cruiser but am happy with the car I drive.

I first got my driver's permit at 18-took driver's ed in school. I renewed that permit at 21 (?) and FINALLY got my licence at 24. It's not that I couldn't drive-just never really had the opertunity. I got a car (a '85 Sentra) before I got my licence. Then I got my '87 Sentra (after my other one was killed in an accident) and believe it or not-I still have it-complete with big rust holes in it and other cosmetic problems.

However, I haven't really driven in a couple of years. I have an eye disease and even though I have good functional vision (most people don't realize that I am visually impared unless I tell them) I feel VERY uncomfortable driving  even though I still have my licence. I don't know if I use my vision as an excuse for my phobia or if my phobia does extend from my vision. Who knows. All I do know is that I hate to drive. But, I really hate to get rid of my car. I know that it doesn't make too much sense to have a car sitting in back-that is only started once-a-week to keep it running and pay to have insurence, inspected etc. We just changed the insurence on it so it will be much cheaper but still. I know that I have my car-JUST IN CASE. I can't drive my husband's car because it is a stick-never learned to drive a stick. He does have a 2001 Honda Civic.

My dream car- as a kid it was a vet but now that I am a bit older, a chauffer driven Rolls Royce.  ;)

I got my driver's license 20 years ago.  :o

I learned to drive using a standard pick-up truck.  Today I drive an automatic Mazda MPV.  :)

Apart from driving people up the wall, I've been behind the wheel since 1986...

Up until a month ago, I was driving a Ford Mondeo - until it decided to die on me halfway around the M25 motorway...trying to limp over to the hard shoulder with maniacs flying at you in all directions is not easy...!

It could've been repaired, but the cost wouldn't have really justified the means...so (as I'd been threatening to do it for a while anyway) I PX'd it for a year-old Ford Focus...wonderful little car, and very fun to drive...

Still doesn't keep the maniacs off the road tho'...!

Dream car? Anything that runs, basically...!

Hey, I used to have a 1987 LeBaron.  It was sweet.  Turbo charged, all the bells and whistles.  It wasn't huge though, yours must be a 4 door?

I'm a complete car nut--learned to drive in my uncle's 1979 Ford F-250 4x4 pickup (with 4-speed manual transmission).  For a living, I drive buses (mostly Ford Econoline cutaways) & wreckers (a Ford F-350 wheel-lift, an F-550 rollback, or an F-800 4-car rollback older than many of the members here. :) My personal fleet consists of:

1979 Cadillac Coupe de Ville--currently parked after being hit-and-run into a guardrail at 50MPH, awaiting parts for repair
1992 Ford F-350 4x4 diesel--my zero-option work/plow truck, with a Reading utility body
1986 Chevy Caprice Classic Landau 2-door--gotten for free a couple weeks ago
1984 Ford B-700 chassis/ThomasBuilt body 40' school bus--motorhome project

My wife:
1986 Buick Grand National--her fire-breathing (700HP) race car that she drives every day from spring to the first snow
1986 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer 4x4--winter vehicle, nearing 500,000 miles
1986 Chevy K-5 Blazer 4x4 diesel--Cherokee's eventual replacement

Well, I can drive fairly well, although I don't have a license. But I usally drive my Dad's 1993 Ford F-150, I'm not that good with a manual trans but I'm getting better. I own a 1952 Mercury panel truck, it doesn't run, and my Dad's going to sell it :'( .

1952 Mercury panel truck>any new car

That would be cool street-rodded.

Last summer, I saw a '51 street rodded. It was almost the exact same as mine. It was awsome.  ;D
