Subject: Hockey in America
A thread in the 90s about NASCAR got me thinking.
Why don't Americans like hockey? I mean it's got everything. It's fast paced, it's the only game in professional sports where players are allowed to fight. The rules are simple enough not to confuse even the most amateur sports fan.
Is it a cultural thing, the way canadians don't care much for baseball?

THATS NOT TRUE!Lots of Americans love hockey anD Im one of them!I love the contact and the fast pace. Its probably not the number 1 sport here in America football is.But hockey is as rough as football.Hockey is the sport in Canada but in America there is just more variety of sprts. The fan base is becoming more culturally diverse now I'd say ten years ago you rarely see minorities playing or attending games but that is changing. The team Im on has different races on it.Some people cant watch it bescause the cant see the puck on tv LOL!It is an expensive sport with all the equipment and some people dont have the dough.

I'm an American, and I like hockey. I think it's the coolest sport next to golf.

One problem was that some Americans said they couldn't follow the puck on the ice, that's why they came out with that special puck several years back.
I don't know if that's true, but other than that, I don't have a clue why it isn't as popular.

Let's see...the puck is black on white and makes a ghosty streak when it goes cross-ice on a pass, whether it's the FOX Glo-Puck or not. It's an inch and a half across. It's obvious who has the puck. So that's not really a good excuse.
I think it's much more popular in the northern states like Minnesota, Pennsylvania, New York and New England. And of course, Chicago and Detroit, part of the Original Six. That's because kids can actually play outside in the winter without having to pay ridiculous fees for ice time. Do you have any idea how much it COSTS to keep an icehouse running in California or North Carolina (two places where I've had to pay out the nose for just an hour of ice time a day)?
