Do you live in a big city or a small town?

You know what's funny? From my point of view, living in Sydney, a place with a population of 400,000 doesn't really seem like a big city. :)

;D Yeah, we do. I remember talking to a young American guy once in Macquarie Street. He was completely lost and totally overwhelmed about how big this place is, and that was only the city itself. It was hard for him to imagine that it can take well over an hour to get beyond the city limits, even on a good day.

Judging by our state-of-the-art transport system, it can take some of us well over half a lifetime to get from one side of the smoke to the other...!

I live in a small town in a suburb of the smoke - the bean-counters of HM Government inform me there's (allegedly) 200,000 people living in it...

:) Are you in/near London? From what I've heard, that's a nightmare.

Fourteen miles from the absolute centre, Goreripper...although it's 'suburbia', it's still technically known as 'London' (something to do with political goings-on from years ago...)

And, yes, believe what you hear...travelling in it is a nightmare...for all its sins, London is still a hellva big employer but its transport was left behind in the Victorian age...!

Hopefully, you don't have this problem...!

Oh but we do. My wife and I live 20 miles from the CBD, and she works 2 miles from the CBD, and travelling to her job on the train takes an hour and a half! That's without an "delays". Nevertheless, I will say that while it does have it's faults, the transport infrastructure isn't too bad. Melbourne's is better, though. Their public transport is among the best in the world, but the traffic there is terrible.

Yea...shouldn't really complain, (but hey, that's what we're good at!)...there's much worse things going on in this crazy place...

Mind you, I must adore the punishment...I keep doing it five days a week!

(Starts counting down the days to retirement...!)

Perth is the capital of Western Australia - Perths population is 1,244,320.  The entire state of WA (which is the largest state in Australia and can fit Texas into it several times) is populated by a total of 1,952,300 and that includes Perths total !

We have a lot of vacant uninhabitable desert !!!

I live 700 metres from the centre of the city so I walk to work.

I could never handle living in Sydney (tho I love holidaying there).  I cant understand how my Dad could live in Blue Mtns and work in Sydney CBD - two hours on the train each way.  Its insane.

I live in New York City and judging by the wall to wall people in the subways it's safe to assume that the population has got to be in the billions.

Same here.  Funny thing is the population is estimated to be over 60,000 by 2020 in my little village (which we are known as, not a city or town, a village)::)

Just under 15,000 but they call it a city.  Guess it depends on your prespective considering the whole province only has 130,000.

we have very definate population limits here to define what is called a village, town, city etc.

My mums place has 1500 people and it just scrapes into being called a town.  Any smaller and it would be a village. And smaller than 60 people - its usually a railway siding !

And a town doesnt get deemed a city until it reaches 30,000.
