Subject: Were you named after a song?
When I was born (in September of 1962) my
parents named me after a song. By Tommy Roe.
Sheila. Anyone else named after a song???
Subject: Re: Were you named after a song?
Hi Sheila - when you said you were named after a Tommy Roe song my first thought was - oh no this poor girl's name is Sweet Pea! ;D
My name is Janine and I believe there is a song by that name. My daughter Eloise was named after the song "Eloise" by Barry Ryan which I have always liked. Pity I never took into account the lyric "I break my heart to please Eloise". That's exactly what happens and she's only 13!

Hi Janine--nice to meet you! I read somewhere
that Tommy Roe originally wrote this song and
titled it "FRIEDA" after his first girlfriend.
I like this forum a lot--just discovered it today!

Subject: Re: Were you named after a song?
I wasn't, but my board name was picked specifically because it reflects what some songs and artists are.... ;D
Subject: Re: Were you named after a song?
i don't think i was named after a song, but i do like to think i was named after a book... ;)
Subject: Re: Were you named after a song?
I wasn't named after a song, but the only song that even has my name in it is by Aerosmith:
Janie's got a gun. >:(
That's nice. :-/
Subject: Re: Were you named after a song?
That's my middle name. Maybe you could include everything by Jane's Addiction.

Well, my nickname came from a song: my name is John, I'm 6'1" & 235lbs. Thus, "Big John".
I hate that song. :(
Subject: Re: Were you named after a song?
Hi there Sheila, and welcome. My name's Graham, I defy anyone to find a song about someone called "Graham", it just doesn't scan musically I'm afraid.
My wife (born 1964) was named after the 1960 UK hit by Billy Fury "Colette". It's a terrible song, she hates it.
Subject: Re: Were you named after a song?
I thought I'd Google my name (Janine) to see how many songs there were. David Bowie has a song called "Janine" as do many other artists :o I had a quick look at some of the lyrics and so far the best one is:
Janine Janine, you're every cowhand's dream
Hotter than a bushfire
Cool as a mountain stream :-[
Maddog I'm determined to find a song with Graham in it!

Subject: Re: Were you named after a song?
I hate the song I was named after. Simon & Garfunkel... urrrgh.
At least the Floyd did one with my name in it, so that makes up for it!
Subject: Re: Were you named after a song?
I wasn't named after a song, but I'm glad I wasn't, because the only name I can think of with "Hannah" in the title is "Hard-Hearted Hannah." :( :)

My name is Shannon and the only song I know with that title is the one about the dog. It was truly traumatizing for a 5 year old. To this day when I tell people my name and they bust into the falsetto "Shannon is gone again..." I just cringe.

I'll tell you a funny story. I had a senile great grandmother who could only remember my name was the same as a river (Shannon). She frequently called me Swanny! ::) :P :)
