Subject: Yearly Question x 2...Why No Polls On Here??
I am still wondering why we can't have polls to post to here on this board. I think it would be a great idea to have them....I asked last year and had many people feel the same....so, what's the deal? Anybody else like them and want them available here....
Subject: Re: Yearly Question x 2...Why No Polls On Here??
I think there should be another category for polls. Maybe people have run out of questions to ask.

Are you talking about polls as in people actually recording votes and the board tallying said votes? Because it might require a software upgrade for this board.

It seems like almost every other messageboard on the web has polls of some sort and they're all pretty much the same, in my opinion.
As Indy stated, there'd have to be another category for polls. Frankly, I think we have enough forums for now, especially with the two newest arrivals.
Another thing Indy stated with which I'm inclined to agree -
Maybe people have run out of questions to ask. ;)
I'll bring this query to ChuckyG's attention so he can let us all know what he thinks.

Unpossible ;D What questions should one ask though?
I think a poll function would require an overhaul of the board, it's not just another category you add, you gotta toss in some software to gather up the choices and tally the votes and all that.

yeah, I have to modify the source code for the messageboard to add one. It's certainly not outside of my ability, I just haven't spent the time on it. It's good to know people are still interested, and I'll try and add it in December once my night courses are done.

I think polls are fun and I'm in favor of having them here. :D

Cool :) You should be prepared to get a flood of them though...hehe.

Thanks ChuckyG :)

well.. I've just been poking into making the changes for the polls.. shouldn't be hard.
The problem that may arise, is that in a few months I hope to upgrade to a new version of the messageboard software that is faster and has more features. If I do that, it'll probably lose all the polls in the process (since it's not a standard function of this software). So, I think what I will do, is set up a seperate forum for just voting, and when it's implemented, I'll let people know that they aren't permanent.
I'd just hold off and install the new software instead, but the release I want, isn't available yet. I've been putting off an upgrade for ages now, due to the size/complexity of an upgrade. This current software though is just a wee bit too slow for the size of the site.
I might even just leave this board in place with everything locked (no new posting) and just make everyone start over in the new software. The software has progressed so much since I installed it, I may be too far behind for the upgrade scripts to even work properly.

I think people have enough to say that it shouldn't matter :) I'm sure they'll appreciate your efforts.

When you do it though, the new versions are really cool ;D

ok... the fact that I let this go by for so long is a little embarrasing, so I looked at the code tonight instead of working on my homework.
Since I'm not doing much for the next few days (and I'll be home to watch for things that might break) so I went ahead and did it. The details are in the Hanging Penguin Chads thread.
