Subject: Classic Gold
Any British People know this radio station? I beleive it's from London. I happen to like it, and I can listen to it right here in Canada.
Subject: Re: Classic Gold
If it's the London 'gold' radio station Fred, chances are you're referring to 'Capital Gold'...the first 'oldies' radio station to be launched here...almost, if not all regions of the UK have a station like this now...
Capital was launched in 1973 as a 'rival' to break the BBC's monopoly on radio broadcasting (it's a commercial station)...it's home used to be found on two frequencies AM & FM (called Medium Wave and VHF in those days!), and then in 1988 the two frequencies split...
FM started to (and still does) broadcast the more 'up to date' stuff, whilst the AM frequency carried 'Capital Gold' (and still does)...I started tuning into it around 1989/90, and although I don't visit it much now, I'll forever be grateful to it for opening my ears to early rock 'n' roll (courtesy of Stewart Coleman on Saturday nights...what a guy!), doo-wop (courtesy of Randall Lee Rose...another character!) and also late '60's/early '70's stuff from the US, which made a change from the same old recycled stuff you'd hear on most shows...
That's probably why I don't listen to it much now...it seems to have become very 'playlist' oriented the last few years...plus a lot of the shows are now 'syndicated' to other UK gold stations (i.e., whatever you're listening to in London is being broadcast at the same time in Manchester) which, I think, lacks something in the imagination department...
That said, it was a huge part of my listening life for about five or six years...I'm guessing you're picking it up on satellite radio (either that, or you've got a bloody big aerial!)
Are there no stations in Canada belting out 'the oldies'?

If we're talking WABC Classic Gold 1017 AM, in my area, I listen to it. But which one are we talking about?

Actually there are lots, but only in the cities, and I live in a small town. And small town radio in Canada sucks. :P
So I was just fooling around and stumbled across British airwaves.

WABC Classic Gold. With Tony Blackburn.
Subject: Re: Classic Gold
YES! That's the one! Tony Blackburn and Laura Pitson. Brilliant station. Few too many ads in my opinion. Some great music.
Its offices are in Lisson Street, London, but it plays over where I live.
I've been listening to it for six years now. It's one of only two stations on my list - the other being Beacon FM (check that out too, it used to be pretty good, not so much now, too much bias on very new stuff where it used to focus on three decadesworth of stuff.) They do a few good shows on WABC actually. And some of their late night music is pretty good, as I remember.
Small world.
Edit: The web address is http://www.classicgolddigital.com/index.shtml. Pretty good stuff.

What time is it in England right now? 'Cause when I was listening to WABC late night it's like mid-morning here.

Why did my post appear twice ???
Subject: Re: Classic Gold
Not sure.
This is strange - seems we're listening to two different programmes at the same time.
