Fred - the Grand Final is our equivilent of your Superbowl.  The biggest day of the Football calender.  The two best teams play in front of a crowd of 90,000, and an aussie viewing audience of several million (not a lot by superbowl standards - but equivilent to 40% of our countrys population), and is televised to 40 countrys around the world.

Basically we all stop to watch it whether our team is in it or not - thats why we are shocked (nah not really) that Gore would get married on the same day !!
