Subject: I'm thinking of revamping the front page
I'm not sure how many people just type inthe00s.com into their browser, instead of bookmarking the site, but I have the ability to make the first page of the site something different, and maybe start work on a very small version of the 80s site for the 2000s..
at a minimum, I want to put in a timeline (the most often requested feature for a 2000s site from school kids), and maybe a current newsfeed...
anyone have any thoughts of what a 2000s site should contain? keeping in mind that I don't actually want a huge site like the others, I just want a new front page, to maybe start giving inthe00s an identity of it's own..

How about a collage of images from shows and movies from the 2000s that are based in the 1900s like That 70s Show? This would make the point that the 00s are a sum of the experiences of the previous decades and that the more things change the more they stay the same.

Hay C,
I'm not sure what you have in mind, but might I suggest leaving the "decades" pages alone and doing a sort of collage for an opening page? Right now it's just the log-in and list of pages. Why not more of a home page, with images from the various decades that were links to the actual pages, 70's, 80's, 2000's etc? I'm sure my techno vocab is wrong, but I hope you get my meaning.
Whatever, This is a cool site, with lots of good and interesting people. Thanks for all your work

I think the 00s needs a timeline, and obituaries. Other than that, it's fine the way it is.

I would like to see web pages with the database of movies and comments back.

um.. no.. never in a million years.. nothing I hate worse than a website that shoves music down my throat when I try and load it.. I usually already have music playing either on my computer or stereo when I hit a website, so the extra music just annoys the heck out of me
plus I have to worry about bandwidth, since it's the most viewed page of the site, it'll really suck the bandwidth down
pictures are also not a good idea, due to the bandwidth issues, but I also worry alot about copyright issues, and most of the images I think people have in mind are probably protected in some fashion..

Well I sure feel stupid. Reading this I just learned you can go to inthe00s.com and get to the same place as going to inthe80s.com and clicking on messageboard. I've been doing it the hard way.

I guess it's not something I ever really advertised as a feature, so don't feel too bad.

Don't worry Wicked. I always go to amiright.com first and then click on messageboards there. It's just because that was the first page I heard about. I think Chucky posted it on kissthisguy (when it was good) a couple of years ago.
I had to look at inthe00s to make sure I wasn't missing out!

Well Chucky whatever you decide is fine with me. Personally I'm up for a change. ;)

Because if there's a music file on the page that people download, that file counts as outgoing traffic. Anything you "get" from a Web site counts as bandwidth from that site...

it's how much stuff is downloaded.. a song clip may be 500K for a 30 second clip. A normal web page is like 50K.. so I could have served ten pages of normal content, or one 30 second clip.. the more stuff downloaded, the more I end up paying to run the site, and the less likely the ads I run will cover my costs..
I try and run the site for as little as possible, and I also try and run as few ads as possible.. some messageboards (there's an 80s one I can think of real quick) have popup ads, and ads at the top and bottom of the screen, and running down the sides of the screen too.. that stuff, while helping to cover the bills, also helps to make the site a real pain to use.. I make nothing on inthe00s.. the cost of the messageboard is provided for by the other sites..
