Boy I must be getting old or something I'm absolutely knackered but I had a great time! I saw:
Bowling for Soup - who were excellent
Less than Jake - also very good
Alien Ant Farm - who were boring
Stained - who ended up doing an acoustic set as their lead guitar wouldn't work.
The Darkness - Who were excellent and very funny!
Electric Six - Who were awesome and my best band of the day.
Placebo - I only saw half of their set which was good but somehow lost in such a big venue.
Blink 182 - Who were also boring, very disappointing and the sound was appaling.
Linkin Park - who were superb and well worth seeing live.
I know the musics not everyone's cup of tea but the atmosphere makes it worth going alone shame about the revolting toilets though :P

This may be a stupid question, but do you actually read at a reading festival?  I don't think I would be able to concentrate at any kind of festival.

Funnily enough most of the American bands that play make that comment.Though it's spelt like reading a book the name of the town where the festival is held is pronounced 'Reding'.It's been going since 1961 when it was a Jazz festival. It was famous as a rock festival through the 70's and 80's though it tends to have more of a mixture these days.It runs over the whole weekend, though I've only gone for one day for the last few years. There's one main stage and 5 surrounding tents housing smaller stages(Radio one stage,Dance stage,Comedy stage,Carling stage and the Concrete jungle stage)So you really do get a mixture of other stuff to watch.

Sadly it seems someone died at the sister Leeds Festival that is run on the same weekend as Reading.(Basically the bands play alternate days at the two festivals.) They have always had trouble at Leeds and have been trying to close it for awhile.Last year there was a riot there which apparently trashed the toilets and I can't say I blame that if they were as disgusting as Reading!!  This year it would appear the crowd surged forward during System of a Downs set and 20 people were crushed one of whom died :(
