Subject: HAPPY 4th!!
.......to everyone! While a lot of us don't agree with the direction our...........*ahem*........leaders (and I use that term loosely) are taking this country at the present time, we should all be thankful that we live in a country where we can make statements like this. Hope everyone has a
BLAST!!

Subject: Re: Don't Forget Canada!
Unless I've got my info totally wrong (and it wouldn't be the first time, believe me!), I gather that it was Canada's National Day on the 1st of July...
...if it was, a belated happy day to you (I know there's one or two of you here!)
...if it wasn't, I'll go crawl back under my rock!

A little history lesson: It was on the 2nd of July 1776 when the Second Continental Congress adopted Virginia's Richard Henry Lee's resolution that "these colonies should and ought to be free and independent states."
On July 3rd, John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail,
"The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America.-I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires, and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more."
But, on the 4th, Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence and thus a new nation was born. So John Adams was wrong that the 2nd would be celebrated but he was right that it is celebrated but on the 4th.
Enjoy the holiday. ;D

Sooo, I think we in the U.S should celebrate both the 2nd AND the fourth, and while we're at it, we might as well take the 3rd as well. Call it "independence week". And the 2nd, 3rd and 4th all in the middle of the week, take Monday and friday as well - or even if it starts on a monday or wednesday. short work weeks sucx. Hey, LETS PARTY
