Subject: Does anyone here write songs?
Anyone here write songs (excluding parodies) or poetry? Share it here. I think I might of started a thread like this in the Song Lyrics thread, but I couldn't find it.
I'm in the middle of writing one now, the working title is "Tree Surgery" (I was doing a search for words related to attention for the title of the song, and somehow this came up, as well as dental care and manicure. ::)). it's a serious song though. I'll type it up here once I'm finished.
I've been writing for a while (I think maybe a year or so now), but I think I've done my best work most recently, although all have small parts in them I really need/want to rewrite.
I have quite a few songs, including "Non Compos Mentis", (which means not having a mind in Latin) a song about the moon and sun, and "Brown Lipstick In A Corporate Suite", inspired by a Frank Zappa quote, about a certain person who sucks up; I need to rewrite it though, because it went horribly wrong with the bridge when it turned into a song about domestic abuse. I'll probably make the bridge into a new song, and then rewrite the other parts I didn't like in "Brown Lipstick..."
Once I type some of these songs up, I'll give y'all the link.
Share some of your lyrics here! :D

Pious Purdah - My dislike for religion.
On that link, you can also click on my author name near the top and see all my other songs (including a few parodies that are on amIright, and both humorous and serious originals). Most of the ones under the link are from 2002, I have not typed up a lot of my new ones yet.

Yeah, I'm like Weird Al, I'll do some original songs on my CDs along with the parodies. My favorites I wrote are 'Easter Bunny College Days' and 'Toilet Bowl Bash'
Subject: Re: Does anyone here write songs?
I don't think I've written any original songs--only stuff I've done are the parodies on amIright.
I really like your songs Junior. Is there a way I can comment on those or do I have to register or something?
ETA--Never mind, I figured it out. ;)
Subject: Re: Does anyone here write songs?
Well, Ive actually given up writing parodies, and have started to focus on my more serious music. But yes I do write songs, and I plan on recording a 10 track album within the next year and I will be sure to let all of yall here it.

I have a couple free-style raps written down in a notebook, but mostly word-wise I haven't done much.
Musically, I'm a pretty good piano player, from what people tell me. And I've only written one little melody on it, but everyone (including my girlfriend, who I wrote it for) tells me that it's really beautiful, and I really do think it has the potential to be the next annoying overplayed ballad, like "Open Arms."
Subject: Re: Does anyone here write songs?
i have...most dont really have music written for them yet...Im an awful guitar player lol....I have one original that I wrote music too and Im trying to record and post it at amiright under the comic recordings (its a funny song).....its also quite an ingenious song..kinda weird Al-ish....I mean, think of his new song "Bob"
aside form that, I have another funny one about killing my girlfriend and dumping her in the woods and then blaiming the death on her because she wouldnt stop talking lol ;D...its based on a true story ...j/k ::) ;) ....I also have one on politics thats kind of funny
Subject: Re: Does anyone here write songs?
Ive got so many songs that I have written, seriously...
I must have like 250 songs so far written entirely, and many more ideas, like just the churus or the opening lines or rythem on guitar, but they excist...the last song I wrote was two nights ago..and did I mention that my lyrics are usually awesome and actually make sense...yeah...

If we're speaking of weird songs...
Ive got a song about a man who comes to a small town and pretends to be Jesus just so that he could molest little children...Ive also got one about a pedofile making selections of which girls he would like to rape...and one about a kid who murders his family simply to make something happon in his life...and one about a paralized kid who commits sucide
but on a less weird note, most of my songs have a morbid feeling to them, kinda like Bob Dylan, and I sorta sound like Bob Dylan when I sing, so it all goes together...for example, Ive written about a man whose girlfriend died in a car accident, and about a man who left his family to go live somewhere else, and about a kid who goes and hangs out with his friends and becomes a part of their "gang" and then finds himself leading a life of crime to which he cannot leave, and in the end he dies because of it...
otherwise, some things I write about are like my friend's upsessions with doing things that are really stupid of them to do, and things I have felt at one time or another, usually most of my songs are about something...
Subject: Re: Does anyone here write songs?
lets see... i wrote this strange concept album freshman year of college about this guy who wants to be a cowboy but there's no music for it and I wrote a bunch of other stuff that could potentially become songs.I'm also working on a sci-fi hip-hop musical. Unfortunately most of this stuff is on my imac which i havent been able to connect to the internet and doesn't have a floppy drive so its just siting there. for now I'm jus working on writing parodies and trying to record the best ones on my computer
Subject: Re: Does anyone here write songs?
If you call songwriting a fusion of sound and distortion, then yes. :)
Subject: Re: Does anyone here write songs?
Well, I try to songwrite, as I just explained five minutes ago. Tee-hee. A lot of the time I fail, as my "incomplete songs" list is greater than my "complete songs" list. But no link....

Yeah, I've written lyrics to songs and poetry. I'm really self-concious about it all and really can't tell whther it's any good. Most of it is pretty depressing or emotional as I tend to write when I'm down! It seems to me that the more ''creative'' ones are written when I'm not feeling like that, though.

I write the songs that make the whole world sing.
:D
Subject: Re: Does anyone here write songs?
I've written quite a few original songs over the years, some of which I still play (e.g. Don't Do Drugs - a firm favourite with the kiddies and grown-ups alike). There's a few live roleplay songs ('Got by the Ghoulies' being one of the funniest), but the common denominator is that by and large they're all funny: IMO you can never have too much music that makes you smile. But I don't do poetry (unless limericks count ;-))
My daughter (aged 9) has over the last year or so shown a quite remarkable songwriting talent - she seems to have grasped song and verse structure without having it explained, though I have tried to go into detail about why I think they're good and to help her write better songs. Although she started off with a "Do you think I'm sexy" sort of lyric, once we'd been through how inappropriate it was for an eight-year-old, the rest have been very good, and getting better. Every time I hear the kiddies of S-Club juniors singing "One step closer", I think how stupid and unimaginative their songwriters are, and how my daughter can do better :-)

I finished "Tree Surgery" (working title), which I have changed to the name "Mope". It's not anywhere in the lyrics, but it just seems to fit. I might have it up soon.

Hi Junior!
I don't write songs as such but I did write a great poem that parodied the verses to 'We didn't start the fire' by Billy Joel.
It was a poem called 'Vanity'.
I obviously didn't put a chorus in there because I felt, at the time, it didn't need one. I will be willing to put the poem on the board later if wanted.

I would like to see that Bobby. Please post it if you wish to.

Here goes . . . Remember: to the verses of 'We didn't start the fire'
Vanity
Porsche Parked, Mirror Marked
Where the owner's lips have been.
Chest out, lips pout
Brightest teeth you've even seen.
Sweet smelled, hair gelled
Toupee's on and firmly held
Smooth skin, looking thin
Cannot breathe 'cause belly's in.
Weight-lifting, weight shifting
Steroids pumped in all the same.
A good hard jog in the smog
Gets the weather bloke the blame.
Piles of miles done on the track
Gave an achey-breaky back
Not too well, sick as hell
Vitamin E's in every cell!
Massage mauling, Avon calling
Interrupting 'Clothes show'
Fat folding, sauna's scolding
Though the gauge is reading 'low'.
Food halved, half starved
Crying as the gateau's carved
To cover sin, let's begin
To see what shape Jane Fonda's in.
Self-styled, health o' philed
Cosmetic covered wild-child.
'Brows plucked, silicone tucked
Plastic surgeon always dialled.
Wet fingertips, doctor slips
Liposuction vacuum flips
Mind warps, surgeon gawps
At the lovely dolled up corpse . . .

very good, bobby!
i tried writing a song once when i was nine...my god, it was bad. i have since destroyed all evidence that it ever exsisted. (at least, i think i did...) :P
i can't write poems either...i can make the lines rhyme, but they don't make any sense. again, i threw away most of my poems because they were so bad... ::) ;D

Thanks very much, Philbo Baggins and Oddxsocks!
I think the challenge is for somebody to make the parody complete by thinking of a suitable chorus to go with the verses.
Good luck! :)
Subject: Re: Does anyone here write songs?
A song I just wrote about two seconds ago, called "Backpedal"...the meaning can be interpreted in quite a few ways...

Songs? Songs??? Pah! What's writing a song compared to writing a rock opera? I'll posts lyrics from my as-of-yet-unrecorded album on here (the album probably won't be recorded until after I get out of high school in '04).
