Subject: Politics - Australia and New Zealand style !
Tell me, does this happen in your country ??? ::) ::) ::)
From The "Sunday Mail", 25 May, 2003....
Speaker (of Parliament) Ray Hollis has warned Queensland MPs not to follow the lead of their New Zealand counterparts and bring DIY projects to work.
Mr Hollis was responding to bizarre news from across the Tasman (Sea) this week, where it was revealed that a Kiwi MP had been given permission to work on a carburettor while sitting in Parliament.
N Z Speaker Johnathon Hunt had received complaints that he had shown favouritism to female memebers of Parliament by allowing them to knit during question time.
In protest, N Z MP Ron Mark asked if he could work on his carburettor in the chamber.
'One of my hobbies is restoring an Austin A35 and I've got a carburretor that needs working on. Is it okay if I bring it in here and work on it?' Mr Mark said.
Mr Hunt ruled he could, so long as he was silent....

lol
They are giving the impression that the MPs do nothing but sit in parliament. I can't imagine they'll have much sympathy next time the ask for a pay rise.

Howvere, Tao, don't they effectively vote for payrises on their own behalf ? Or has that changed now ?

Well, I guess if he dosen't grunt while working on that carburator - unless its politically motivated, what's good for the goose...
I wish more of our legeslators spend more time on their hobbies and less time screwing the average person in this country. You guys might be wise to let them play. Depending on who they are it might be your best defense. Politicians! GOOD LUCK ;D
