Subject: Rockin' down the highway!
As some of you know, I drove a semi cross country for a living for a large part of my life. One thing I always checked in my PTI (pre-trip inspection) when I was leaving, say, Chicago, and had a 12 or 14 hour trip to get home on a Friday evening, was my tunes. The music was an integral part of the trip. Although some folk's perception of "trucker music" might be Red Stovall's "Phantom 409" or Jerry Reed's "East Bound and Down", a lot of, what the "old timers" used to call the "new breed" of drivers preferred to JAM down the road. Some that come to mind are........
"Rockin' Down The Highway" - The Doobie Bros.
"Running On Empty" - Jackson Browne
"Take It Easy" - The Eagles
"The Boys Are Back In Town" - Thin Lizzy
"Highway Song" - The Outlaws
"Truckin'" - Grateful Dead
"I Can't Drive 55" - Sammy Hagar
"Detroit Rock City" - KISS
"I'm Comin' Home (To See My Baby)" - Alvin Lee and Ten Years After
"Born To Run" - Bruuuuuuuuuce
and my personal favorite........
"Radar Love" - Golden Earring
What jams do some of you have to have tuned in and turned up as an essential part of a ROAD TRIP!!
(I'm sure that, like any of these list's of favorite whatevers, I'll be saying "How could I have forgotten that one", 10 minutes after I post this but..........se la vie ::))

Heya driver..I'll be on the road with you - give me about 10 days and I start training...the orange machine, you know what I'm saying.
Road Trip Must List?
AC/DC Highway to Hell (Actually, most of thier jams)
Joe Walsh ' Rocky Mountain Way'
Motley Crue 'home Sweet Home' on the way home
Necessary Skynard "Sweet Home" "Free Bird"
Floyd "Learning to Fly"
Now .. it goes on and on..but that's a place to start!

Much as I love a lot of the music that's been mentioned above, I don't usually play that sort of stuff while cruising any more, as I end up driving much too fast...
So mostly I stick to I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue recordings and other comedy stuff such as Jack Dee, Dead Ringers, Python, Kevin Bloody Wilson, Jake Thackray, Jasper Carrott etc etc

Used to drive loads every weekend so always had some music in the car. Mainly commercial compilations which have most of the tracks listed previously. Also had Bat Out of Hell and another couple of Meatloaf tracks and some Suzi Quatro
Now we have children and so mainly listen to 'Wheels on the Bus' and other such gems. My daughter's particular favourite at the moment is the Rolf Harris classic 'Jake the Peg'.

It's a whole different ball game with children in the car: fortunately, I've got them hooked on the "one song to the tune of another" and "pick up song" rounds from ISIHAC: favourites include "Run Rabbit Run" to the tune of Delilah; "I heard it through the grapevine" to the tune of "Leaning on a lamppost" and the wonderful "Blame it on the Boogie" to the tune of "Battle Hymn of the Republic"... other than that, songs from Oliver or Josepth & his ATDC or the Blues Brothers :-)

Well, since the kids have a TV monitor/VCR in my car, I get to listen to whatever I want ;D
In my CD changer, I have Aerosmith's greatest hits, the soundtrack to Rock Star, Styx greatest hits, Creed (ducks, Pink, and I used to have some Def Leppard, but it disappeared the morning hubby went to the concert without me ::)

We, too must have Truckin' by Grateful Dead, but there are other must haves: Judy Blue Eyes by Crosby Stills Nash and Young, The Weight and Cripple Creek by The Band, and basically anything by Lynerd Skynard. 8) We don't limit ourselves to only these choices, but we make sure they are in the car before we embark on any road trip! Of course, we also make sure we have the complete soundtrack to Winnie the Pooh for our four music officianados in the back! ;)

Froofy, your age isn't in your profile, but I'd be willing to bet that you're a member of the "grey beard" (over 35) set. (BTW, you have great taste in music)
Subject: Re: Rockin' down the highway!
Sorry Dude, you are 100% wrong!! I am only 31. (born in Nov. 1971) Won't be 32 for another five months. My husband is 32 and won't be 33 for another six months. I was four months pregnant by our first anniversary and I guess you could say I was pregnant every other year thereafter! There are only about two to three years separating each child. Their ages are 8, 6, 3, and 1 years old.

As a seventeen year old growing up with this music being pumped into me, I just have to say:
"Holy c... you have good taste..."

I've become a big Grateful Dead fan through means other than by my own choice - and have never regretted it !

Oh well, story of my life. ::) Let's just say that you've gained a lot of wisdom and musical taste in a short time, then. Whatever, you still know your tunage!! ;)

Hard work, ain't it? Quite similar to mine: 9,7(nearly 8),5 and 3... But who'd have it any other way? (That's a rhetorical question, BTW)
