Subject: Are You In The Mood For Dancing?? :)
I don't think this has ever been asked (but I might be wrong!). Do you dance? Have you ever done dance classes in the past/still do them, or do you just love to dance at a good party or club? Or, are you the kinda person who just sits/stands whilst everyone else is 'gettin their groove on' ?
Me, I love dancing. I mainly do choreography for children at work. It's all modern, disco kinda stuff - for example, I'm making up a dance to Justins 'Rock Your Body' at present. I used to go to dance classes for a few years, and used to dance with my girl friends in the shows at school a few years back. I'm always up for a dance at a party also!
So what about you guys? What I really wanna know is who can dance, and who really can't! Are you one of those people who try, and just fail miserably? (like my friend Jon from work! I get him to help me with my class on Fridays just for the pure comedy value ;D).

A long, long time ago I used to go clubbing with my friends. At one point in my life I was too shy to even entertain the thought of getting up on a dance floor, but once I hit my 20's that all changed. I do love to dance. I never learned any particular steps, I just went up on the floor and did whatever came to me. It was great fun and I miss it.

I DO NOT dance.

Well, I was a cheerleader so I love to dance. I choreographed our halftime dances for 2 sports for 4 years, as well as our Nationals routine (which I still remember all of them :o. can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday, but I can remember a routine from 1985 :P) Since I had the kiddies, though, I don't get to dance as much as I used to, but I still enjoy it!
Subject: Re: Are You In The Mood For Dancing?? :)
I'll dance only if I'm drunk. ;D
Subject: Re: Are You In The Mood For Dancing?? :)
A friend of mine pointed out that with the current fashion of dancing is not really dancing at all. John Travolta had to train for months to dance in Saturday Night Fever but if you were to make a modern update of that movie, you wouldn't have to learn any steps at all, you'd just have to bounce up and down.
That said, I still don't dance. At least not sober.

I love to dance. A couple of weeks ago I completed a class on Salsa dancing, now I am currently taking Bellydancing lessons. Dancing is a fun way to exercise & it's a great cardio workout! I would like to look into taking some kind of Tango or Flamenco lessons, in case anyone ever decides to take me to Italy or Spain! ;)
I also like dancing in clubs. Esp., once I get my buzz on, I am all over the dance floor! :D
Subject: Re: Are You In The Mood For Dancing?? :)
It's not so much "dancing" as "controlled gyrating" ;)

I did a bit of salsa too - it's so much fun. Now, my mom takes the salsa class at the leisure centre where I work with the kids! I've wanted to learn swing dancing for so many years now - probably since the first time I saw 'Grease' - yet I don't know anyhwere that has classes. I think it would be so cool to just do half of those moves. I'd need a good partner though, any offers? ;)

I'm fine when I'm teaching the kids - but if I need, say a male partner, it's impossible! Trying to get my boyfriend to dance would be like getting blood out of a stone! I could REALLY see him swing dancing! I think he can just about do the head bouncing thing when there's a good beat in the background!!
Subject: Re: Are You In The Mood For Dancing?? :)
My parents signed me up for dance lessons when I was a small child. I don't know why, I had never asked for them, and I was ticked off that I had to miss one of my favorite Saturday-morning cartoons for these dumb lessons.
They were for ballet and tap, and when the teacher had to cancel classes after a back injury, my parents found they could not afford to send me to a "real" dance studio for lessons.
As an adult, I took a year's worth of Flamenco lessons. I had a lot of fun, but the teacher was very challenged because there was only one man in the class. She had to teach us mostly line routines because nobody had a partner.
When I went out to clubs I would "dance" after a fashion. I probably looked like a fish flopping around for air, so I would wait till the dance floor was crowded before daring to head out.
I enjoy the physical workout of dancing, even if I may be no good at it, so whenever I get the chance I dance.
Even if it's only the cat who sees me. ::)

I hereby volunteer myself to be anyone's dance partner ;D
After I graduated from Duke my friend and I went to Salsa Night at a local Mexican bar in Durham. I have never danced with so many beautiful women in my life. Gentlemen, if you're having trouble meeting ladies, dance nights and dance lessons are the way to go ;D
Just an addendum: I suck at dancing and I have no rhythm but I'm all about having fun and being a team player, and I'm always eager to learn new moves if you're willing to teach me ;)

Right on! :D Maybe I will be in California someday & we can go shake our booties to some Latin music! Or....you can let me know the next time you are in DC. ;)
Subject: Re: Are You In The Mood For Dancing?? :)
I don't know about you gringos, but we Latinos know that if you can walk, you can dance. Its all in the hips for us, but even the old English line dances, New England contra dances, and waltzes allow for LOTS of - shall we say "Public Displays of Affection"? And when done in private, they can lead to all kinds of interesting consequences ;)
Man, DANCING. I love to dance - and so does Cat. We dance a lot. Mostly at home, but sometimes we go out contra dancing. And at our wedding, we will dance our shoes off.

Give me a good song and an even better man....I'm there!!

I love to dance!! I have to do it at work (choreographed routines) but when I hear a great song I just wanna Get Up and Boogie as KC would say ;)

Not all Hispanics can dance. I happen to be Latino and known to have two left feet. :P
The only dance I can pull off is the Electric Slide.

As Phil once said....."I can't dance." :(
I can play. :D
I can rock. :)
I can jam. 8)
I can boogie. ;D
but
I can't dance. And I know it. I'm like a lot of folks on here. I can toss down 4 or 12 shots and hit the floor tryin'. Guess I always spent my time on the other side of the stage. :-/

Oh gosh!!! Why even bother? That has got to be the dumbest line dance I have ever seen! If I even HEAR that song in a club or at a wedding, I have to duck & run for the bathroom because not anly am I afraid of someone asking me to do that dance and the alcohol in me forcing the word "yes" out of my mouth, I am completley embarrassed for the people doing it. I just can't watch such horror!
Subject: Re: Are You In The Mood For Dancing?? :)
I've disproven the old adage DJs can't dance.
I get better as I drink more. ;D
I did take some dance lessons a couple of years ago. I can do basic foxtrot, swing and salsa moves. I can still moonwalk too. 8)
Subject: Re: Are You In The Mood For Dancing?? :)
I have studied dance for many years-ballet (and pointe), tap, jazz. I have a trophy (my one and only) for dance and choregraphed and danced in many shows over the years. I am very out of shape now but can still move (and even still do a pirroette or two) Now, I usually just dance around the house (especially after having a couple of glasses of spumonti ;D) I refer to dancing as my "hidden Talent" because not too many people are aware that I can dance. I think that DC especially likes the way that I dance just for him. ;) As he said, we both like to dance and often dance together. If it not somewhere else, it is at home. We do waltz a lot and there is nothing like dancing together to "Have you ever really loved a woman" by Bryan Adams. ;D
We went to a wedding one time and asked the dj to play a waltz. The guy didn't know what a waltz was. "I played some slow songs." The only one that DC could think of off hand was "Piano Man" by Billy Joel. It was LONG and FAST. We were the only two on the dance floor and had the entire place as an audence. We vowed NEVER to dance to that one again. lol

I did ballet when I was about 5 and never got much further than 'good toes, bad toes' ;D I love to go clubbing though, I just get upand go for it and don't give a sh*t if I'm not very good. What I lack in style I make up for in enthusiasm !! I've always fancied learning to jive...........
I have also been known to boogie about the bookcases at work to my walkman whislt singing very flattly !?!
Subject: Re: Are You In The Mood For Dancing?? :)
I can only dance horizontally... I'm afraid anything requiring coordination escapes me! ::)
Subject: Re: Are You In The Mood For Dancing?? :)
Shake your groove thang! ;D
I am always in the mood for dancing! Best form of self expression and an excellent tension reliever!

Lol! You gotta also admit that the 'Oops Upside Your Head' is also one of the dumbest dances ever!
Still, if the 'Macarena' or 'Staurday Night' comes on - it's gotta be done. I refuse to do the 'Ketchup song' though - the other two were more my generation!!!
Subject: Re: Are You In The Mood For Dancing?? :)
I can do The Twist,Lambada,Ketchup Song,Electric Slide,Conga,The Bump especially at 30 and that's about it.Though I can't breakdance anymore,I feel I might break my back!

True. But it's not that bad compared to the Macarena.

I love to go dancing nowadays...
My senior year of high school, I used to always go to after hour clubs with my girlfriend at the time, her friends, and a couple of my friends. At first, I would never dance, even if I had been drinking before. After awhile though, I really started to have a lot of fun. I realized that even if you don't dance that well, there's probably someone else on the dance floor that dances worse! Think of the Seinfeld episode when Elaine is dancing at a work party. ;D
Since I turned 21, I will usually go to a club every few months or so, or at least try to anyways. It definetly makes you feel like you are really going out for a night on the town, rather than being at a bar and sitting on your a$$ all night. I usually like to dance to disco, cheesy 80's stuff, and old school hip hop. Another good thing about dance clubs is that many of them have really good drink specials during the week. This way you can get your drink on a little and then get out on the floor and dance some more!

FF, we'll have to meet the next time I'm in the Valley. 8)
I haven't danced my @$$ off since my 30th birthday last year at Exit2 in New York from 12-6am with DJs Anthony Nero & Junior Vasquez. Nero's set was slammin'! Junior had perfect segues but his set was unenergetic and boring (that and the drama queen didn't go on until 5). ::)
Subject: Re: Are You In The Mood For Dancing?? :)
Love to dance! But hardly get to.
I'd like to take real lessons, but little time. My cousin did so maybe I can pick up from him.
But doing actual dancing is my favorite; that's why I love country cuz you're expected to do more than just wiggle up and down - and people actually do dance, too, at the bars or whereever it is, rather than hanging on the sidelines. I don't mind the wiggling but it's pretty boring after a while cuz it's all basically the exact same thing. In country you can be intimate w/a partner (i.e., hands-on, not just wiggling in front of each other) or completely independent for any given song. More fun to do actual steps and *ahem* master them!
Subject: Re: Are You In The Mood For Dancing?? :)
I would LOVE to spend a nite out dancing...it seems so long since I have, guess it was also my 30th birthday!
Maybe it is time to hit my ol stomping grounds again...

If nothing else, a night in a dance club is a most excellent aerobic workout ;)

I can do a pathetic rendition of the Six-Step...which is hardly an impressive b-girl move. Oh well.
