Subject: Root Canal ~ I Had One Today
Well, I had a root canal today - my first time.Anyone else ever have one and what was your experience with it ?I had to get it for a fractured molar :-/. The weird thing is I experieced NO pain at all . I think the whole experience was not worth the nervousness beforehand. It didn't hurt (but ya feel a lot of pressure and tugging which is freaky). Anyone else have one ?

Consider yourself extremely lucky. I've had two. The first was the experience from Hell. Pain from the tooth and the doctor was a "quack". Second one; pain from the tooth but the doctor was brilliant!
Should we move on to wisdom teeth being pulled? :P

I've never had a root canal, but I've had five teeth pulled, as well as five teeth filled…

I had a root canal, the worst part was my jaw was sore for weeks afterwords cause my mouth was wired open for hours. Other than that it wasn't bad. I didn't need to bother with the pain medication.

I also had a root canal done a few years ago & experienced no pain what-so-ever. All that worrying for nothing! >:(
Now wisdom teeth.............thats a whole 'nother story. That pain was BAD!!! (Thank goodness for Percocets!) :D

Percocet is a wonderful little pill, isn't it? ;)
I have had 2 root canals and had no pain during the actual procedure, but after was a bugger.

When I had one of my wisdom teeth pulled, my dentist gave me a prescription for Tylenol 3. I took three of them the day I had that tooth pulled, and they nearly knocked me out!

I have had two root canals. One was okay, had some pain afterward. The second one was a nightmare. It was an emergency root canal - the dentist had done a bit of drilling to put in a filling, and when I got home and the freezing wore off, I was in agony. He had to phone in a prescription for Tylenol 3 for that night, and did the emergency root canal at 7:00 the next morning. That was on my back lower molar, and I have to get a crown put on it now.
You're lucky you haven't had a lot of pain - I guess I have a very low tolerance for pain, so what may be no biggie for some people has me crying in pain.

So sorry to hear you went through that , Velma. :(
I hope that the rest of your dental work goes very smoothly.

I have had a couple. The pain was so unbearable BEFORE them, that I don't remember any afterwards.

So THAT's the problem - his WISDOM teeth were pulled.
I knew there had to be an explanation.
I've never had any cavities or a root canal. I did have some baby teeth pulled when I was in the 4th grade. I don't remember any of it though. To hear you guys talk about it, I don't ever want to have a root canal!!!!!

Never had a root canal, but I had all 4 wisdom teeth out in one day. The real b!tch wasn't the pain of the extraction though. What was bad was that the stitches they put in came out and the clot that was supposed to protect everything (nerves, etc) while it healed came out, leaving exposed nerves on both sides of my mouth, top and bottom. Even breathing through my mouth hurt like hell, forget about eating or drinking.
And I still did my scheduled radio time at the station I worked at the time that night! My Program Director told me the next morning I was crazy, and should have called in...

Sounds like we've been to the same dentist.
I've never had a root canal, only because any time I've needed work done, I've either had no dental insurance (and couldn't afford a root canal) or the insurance I had refused to pay for a root canal (but would pay the dentist twice the going rate to completely extract it. How messed up is that?)
I did have all 4 of my wisdom teeth out, because they were impacted. Lucky me, I was taken into the hospital and given day surgery for it. I felt nothing all that day.
Next day was a totally different story... :(

I had two root canals in the last couple of months. The first one was done by a endodontist and it didn't hurt at all. The second one was done "oh by the way, you need another root canal" by my dentist and it hurt like hell! If the hygienist hadn't grabbed my arm, I would have landed a good punch to his face!

Crap! Seriously? So you have NO dental records...if you're ever burned beyond recognition how will they identify you? ;)
Oh please know I'm only kidding...
