Subject: Youth: Do you love it, hate it, or miss it?
Hello fellow penguins, I realize that my topics are usually pretty meaningless, usually just questions posted in light of curiosity. But this topic is revolved around the various age groups in this message board, and this topic is based on something basically everyone in this board can relate too......YOUTH!
Love it: you hope it never ends, and you dont take a single day for granted. You love being young, even if sometimes life gets a little rough. You realize that what happens today, is small compared to the trials you will face as an adult. You dont worry about keeping schedules but focus on playing in bands, playing sports, and making big entrances.'
Hate it: you are in a hurry to grow up, and get past what you feel is the worst part of your life, you have made up your mind that once you grow up, everything will be fine.
Miss it: you are well past your youthful days, the song entitled:"The summer of 69" makes you cry or wonder where the days went, you can totally relate to Fred Savages character in "The Wonder Years"
I personally love it, I am fully aware that these are the days that I will always remember. Days when I wanted to go out, I would ask pops for a few bucks, days when I would skip school to play basketball, eat grinders, and rat at the mall. Days when girls came and girls went, time was vast and money was spent. I still have some time before the real world smacks me in the face and little by little my youthful dreams begin to fade away like a brief evanescence. But until that day comes, Im gonna live it up.
Now what about you guys? When it comes to youth, do you love it, hate it, or miss it? and no, i didnt pull this from a website or email, I simply started asking myself questions, and then decided to post them. peace --- Ghetto John

I miss youth partly because now that I'm an "adult" I'm expected to be "mature" and a "productive member of society", when all I wanna do is play and blow stuff up ::)
I think that's frowned upon at my "old age" ;D
Subject: Re: Youth: Do you love it, hate it, or miss it?
Wait, was I supposed to grow up? ;D

That's exactly what I was thinking! :D
I miss youth a little bit, but the toys have gotten bigger and better... 8)

I miss my youth. I'm 46 but I never really grew up.
Subject: Re: Youth: Do you love it, hate it, or miss it?
Hmmm I wish I'd made a bit more of it when I was younger but I certainly don't feel old, well not all the time anyway.......
Subject: Re: Youth: Do you love it, hate it, or miss it?
I do not consider myself "old" per se, but at 35, with enough grey hair to make coloring my hair more of a necessity than an option, I realize I am no longer "young" either.
For the most part, I'd say I miss my youth. Having someone else to pay the bills, giving me the freedom to buy what I want, when I want is something I miss. Also the freedom to pull and all-nighter when I want (not to mention the stamina to survive it).
But since I am not really "old", that's really the only part I miss.

love it! i love the freedom of not having to have a job and pay taxes and bills. i like how if i want to, i can get a job. i also like how i can ditch school once in a while, which is something i probably won't be able to do as much when i actually have a career. i like how i can get my mom to buy things and then wait to pay her back...another thing i can't do once i'm out in the real world. ;)
Subject: Re: Youth: Do you love it, hate it, or miss it?
Nope, I don't miss it. I like making my own money and making enough of it to not have to worry if I splurge on myself every once in a while, having to answer to no one but me as far as my personal life goes, no school, no curfew...
No one could pay me enough to relive my childhood. My 30s have been wonderful so far, I'm happy with my life and I'm pretty darn content with the way it's heading.
Subject: Re: Youth: Do you love it, hate it, or miss it?
I hated it. I couldn't wait to be out on my own and make my own decisions. I always hated other people telling me what to do. My mother still tries to do that but I think she realizes that really can't anymore.

I wish I'd known then what I know now :P ;)
Subject: Re: Youth: Do you love it, hate it, or miss it?
I remember young!
Getting older is not a good thing in this world :(
Subject: Re: Youth: Do you love it, hate it, or miss it?
I don't miss the part where I had to do what my parents said, be in by 9 and all that. What I do miss is that all they money I made from my job was mine to play with. I miss not having to pay bills or be responsible.
Subject: Re: Youth: Do you love it, hate it, or miss it?
I miss my youth. You know it's funny....when we are teenagers we want "freedom" so much to be able to do what we want, when we want & with who we want. But now, that I am an adult....I feel like back then I was free. I had no responsibilities except for school & chores. No bills, no nagging headaches over stress, no worries. I miss that feeling. I miss the day when I turned 16 and the feeling of excitement when I got my driver's license. I miss the butterflies in my stomach over my first love. I miss all the fun parties. I miss all the friends I had. I miss sitting in the comfort of my poster-plastered room listening to The Cure & The Smiths for hours on end. I miss the feeling of sitting in my parents living room late at night watching MTV, Friday Night Videos & Night Flight and taping videos on our Betamax.....dam that was cool back then! I miss little things that can never be replaced at this time in my life. I just hope that I can watch my children experience those feelings when they are that age. And I will tell them repeatedly to cherish & appreciate every moment, because you can never get it back.

To be quite honest, I don't feel any differently now than I did as a teen.
Subject: Re: Youth: Do you love it, hate it, or miss it?
I remember those times during my youth when I cursed and My Mother stuck a bar of soap for me to suck on.I hated those times.

Youth: I'm part of it ::)

I miss the twenty-something years but I wouldn't want to live over my childhood years. I dread getting older. Each coming birthday to me is not a day of celebration but of mourning. Someone please discover the Fountain of Youth...a pill...a shot...something.
Subject: Re: Youth: Do you love it, hate it, or miss it?
Youth is good. The experiences of my youth are what made me who I am to-day. I could never be bitter enough to hate it and look at it in disdain nor have as bad of a present life as to want to re-live it. I try to learn from the past and I open the hand of thought - and let go.
Btw, I still subscribe to the idea that "young" and "old" are states of mind. It's waaay cliche, I know ::)
Subject: Re: Youth: Do you love it, hate it, or miss it?
I'm still in my youth & it's OK at this moment. ::)
Though I don't care for the current youth pop culture.

What's all this crap about getting older? As far as I'm concerned I'm still - well - 30 was good. Age is in your mind, mostly (sometimes its also in your back, or neck, or wallet). I think the key is to enjoy the time and situation you've got and forget about how old you are. Thinking about it makes you old. Enjoy what life gives you, and work for better things tommorow. Damn that sounds preachy - and funky ;)

Don Carlos has an excellant point. I'm 37 and most people consider me youthful. And I have met people in the early 20s that seem dang old. Aging in body is inevitable, aging in spirit is an individual choice.
As far as my youth goes, the 70s board has helped my recall many great days I had as a kid, there were much more good days than bad, the only thing I regret is any child I have will not have the freedom that I was allowed in those more innocent days.

Let me tell you.I feel so damn old.Where I live in New York,I'm seeing so many teenage boys and girls around my area and I'm saying to my friend "Damn,I'm getting old,I just can't believe I'm 30 and I remember about 15-20 years ago, when I used to be a hyper kid myself".I just never seen so much of the teen population explosion these days. It's ridiculous. And also,I'm seeing more and more teenage flicks out in the movies.I guess they rule! Boy,I miss my younger days from the 80's.What's happening? :( ;D
