Subject: Could this happen?

I got this in an email.  It is pretty funny.  How much hairspray do you think she used?

Edna Evon Sims filed a lawsuit in Columbia, South
Carolina, against the maker of two hair-care products
after a 1988 incident in which, while standing at a bus
stop on a 96-degree day, her hair suddenly burst into
flames. A passing police officer moved quickly to put
out the fire, but Sims claimed to have suffered permanent disfigurement.

Yeah, then there was the case of the spontanious combustion of a dog, on main street.  Seems he ate a lit fire cracker on the 4th of July.  Poor beast burst into a star spangled beagle ;)

That's impossible.Nobody could burst into flames just like that.Something has to be lit in order to ignite.I've never heard such silliness.

I watched a show on Discovery about spontaneous combustion & it seemed pretty real to me at the time.  Does anyone know for sure if it is fake or not?

p.s. should I go check snopes.com?  ;D  Cause I am sure if it is a bunch of crap, those snopers know all about it.  ::)

Spontaneous combustion is real. It's what happens in peat bogs and hay bales sometimes when the temperature inside causes the gases to ignite, and start a fire. Spontaneous human combustion has never been proven. I very much doubt Ms Sims' hair burst into flames because of any hair care products she may have used. You never saw Jon Bon Jovi's or Joey Tempest's hair suddenly explode into flames in hot weather, and they used more hairspray than most people have had hot dinners.  :)

there was a human spontaneous combustion special on "unsolved mysteries" one time...it was rather amusing.  their proof of why it had to be real might have been very compelling if it weren't for the fact that both of the guys who burst into flames were smoking... :D

Ain't that the truth!!

Human Spontaneous Combustion, or HSC, is very real. Just ask Spinal Tap. Poor Stumpy Pete, the band's 10th drummer I believe, spontaneoulsy combusted. All that was left was a little green globule on his drum seat. Sad indeed. :'(

Would sweat cause hair to burst to flames? My scalp during those hot summers causes my head to drip wetness.

Sweat, like other non-flamable liquids, puts OUT fires.  HSC ?  I have been known to burst into flames on occasion.  Like on the 2000s board -badda-boom.  I have also been know to "blow up" at my students when they don't do assigned work.
