Subject: Songs That Give You Goosebumps

Written By: CeramicsFanatic on 03/23/03 at 11:59 p.m.

We all know of songs that stir emotions inside us.  Can you think of any songs that, when heard, cause you to have some sort of a physical reaction?

Here are some of mine:

1. "Southern Cross" by Crosby, Stills & Nash (there is just something about the song and the harmonizing that gets me every time!)

2. "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot (this song is very haunting for obvious reasons)

3. "Silent Lucidity" by Queensryche (it's Geoff Tate's vocals that gets me on this one!)

4. "Everybody Hurts" by R.E.M. (a sad, yet very pretty song)

5. "Falling" by LeBlanc & Carr (again, it's the harmonizing on this one)

6. "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon & Garfunkel (as FussBudget said in one of his posts recently, it's that break right before they sing "Sail on, Silvergirl"...)

7. "The One" by Elton John (I'm not sure what it is about this song...I think it might be the piano lead...beautiful!)

8. "The Same Old Sun" by The Alan Parsons Project (a very pretty song!)

Pretty much any Roxy Music song from the Avalon era:

"True To Life"
"While My Heart Is Still Beating"
"More Than This"
"Like A Hurricane" (live)

These are some of the coolest sounds ever recorded. The first three evoke images of winter nights in a big city drowned in black, blue, red, white, and green. Kind of like an Edward Hopper painting ;) "Like A Hurricane" is a seaside bash!

I'm amazed to see some people listed The Alan Parsons Project!

"Don't Answer Me"
"Old And Wise"

More songs pertaining to this topic:

"A Strange Day" and "Killing An Arab" by The Cure

"Ghosts" by Japan

"Sketch For Summer" and "A Smile In The Crowd" by The Durutti Column

"Black Metallic" and "Crank" by The Catherine Wheel

"Fall Apart" by Death In June

"Equal Ways" by Clan Of Xymox

"Love Is A Shield" by Camouflage

"The Day Before You Came" by ABBA

P.O.D. Youth of a nation
especially this part because I can relate to it and would probably do the same

Johnny boy always played the fool, he broke all the rules so you'd think he was cool, he was never really one of the guys no matter how hard he tried with the thought of suicide. It's kinda hard when you aint got no friends he put his life to an end they might remember him then, you crossed the line and theres no turning back...told the world how he felt with the side of a gat.

Part of Me

If I ever get around to it, I'll list songs that aren't by Linkin Park.

Yes, this song is very powerful.  It gets across a message too many adults don't want to really want to hear.  When I hear it, I think about my teens on the robot team (yes, I said "my", those brats bring out a maternal side of me I didn't know I had) and I could cry.  I see so many of them going through difficult times and there's not much I can do about it.

If you read the lyrics & think about Layne's dying battle with Heroin it makes it even more sad.  :(

"Nutshell" - Alice In Chains

We chase misprinted lies
We face the path of time
And yet I fight
And yet I fight
This battle all alone
No one to cry to
No place to call home

Oooh...Oooh...
Oooh...Oooh...

My gift of self is raped
My privacy is raked
And yet I find
And yet I find
Repeating in my head
If I can't be my own
I'd feel better dead

Yeah, I had heard that he basically was hiding out from the world months before his death.  Like he never would answer the phone or door for people.  Apparantly the big tip off was that his accountants noticed no activity on any of his bank accounts (which was odd cuz he was buying mass amounts of smack on a daily basis) for weeks so they contacted his family.  Which led his mother & step-father of all people to kick his door down & find him dead on the couch.  That is just so tragic to me!  But honestly, I don't think he ever recovered from his girlfriends OD.  It was like he died with her.  One of his bandmates said of Layne "It was the slowest and most painful suicide he had ever seen" (I take it he has seen quite a few?)  ::).  Odd though that the coroner dated his death April 5th 2002.  Eight years to the day of Kurt's death. :o

Sorry I rambled on off topic about this, but I just really love AIC & thought Layne Staley had an awesome talent very different from the other "Seattle" bands.  Unfortunatley he danced with the devil a little too hard & was way beyond helping himself.  Dam Heroin.  Dam Dam Dam.

OK, carry on.......... :)

Bed of Roses - Bon Jovi
Breathing - Lifehouse

Too many to mention but I would have to say:
1)  Kermit's-Its not easy being green
2)  The Vinyl's-I touch myself
3)  Muskrat Love (I'm not sure who the artist is)
4)  Puff the Magic Dragon-Peter, Paul and Mary
5)  And anything by Abba
